Some of you may recall my mentioning in another thread using a small engineering firm tucked away in the hills near Stonehouse not far from Stroud in Gloucestershire. I used them again today and four hours after dropping the old A-Series Cylinder Head off for a skim/grind this is what was ready for me. Much better :~

It's from my son's MG Metro 1300 which I gave to him before he was old enough to hold a driving licence. He's looked after the car taking it to POL back in April and it runs well until recently. Down on power. A quick compression test showed well down on Cylinders 2 and 3. Soon had the head off ~ doddle on these old cars ~ and that revealed a break in the Cylinder Head gasket in the narrow part between the two cylinders. Gasses had left stains and the head was suspect in that area. Not from warping but, from corrosion in that area making a compression Fire Ring seal unsafe. This light skim should do the trick and Martin will refit the head with new gasket come the weekend.

The car is 1982 Reg so two years older than he is ... smile
