Having recently traded my Alfa 159 Sportwagon against a Lotus Evora (no difference, I know rolleyes) I still needed to find something cheap and practical to use for my daily commute and weekend dog-carrying duties. Enter a 2004 ZT-T 2 litre diesel automatic - a nice big estate car for not a lot of cash. I wasn't expecting perfection and didn't get it so wasn't disappointed.

I can overlook the little things like the odd battle-scar here and there, or the fact that the electric mirror adjustment doesn't work but in the last couple of days a slightly more worrying issue has reared its head. Sometimes it does it when you first select 'drive', other times it's OK for a bit then does it whilst you're on the move but it's like the box has got stuck in a mid-range gear. If you're moving off from standstill it's like a badly slipping clutch on a manual box - lots of revs but very slow acceleration. Once on the move and up to speed, the revs remain high e.g. 70mph is over 3k revs rather than the 2k when it's behaving itself. Whilst this is going on, the dashboard display shows 'EP' rather than 'D' and occasionally the rev counter and the temperature gauge stop working for a few seconds before returning to normal.

I don't have a handbook for the car so have nowhere to search for troubleshooting tips other than to test the knowledge of you good people on here, biggrin .

Try MG/Rover forums, lots of help on there. Mine's a manual so I don't take a lot of notice of auto problems, not that I've seen that many.....

Also the 75/ZT site :~

Here's the link to their Technical Help Forum :~

There's a few well clued up folks there who know these cars well. I believe at least one or two worked for the firm and were involved at all levels of production.

Mine of information for me since I bought a couple of MG ZT 1.8t last year.
