Hi all . i have a 1973 MGB GT .About a month ago i replaced the calipers as she developed a wobble from the steering on breaking there was a sticking piston .This did not clear the wobble it was then noticed that a disc was distorted .These were both changed and the wobble was sorted she now drives straight and true .the only problem is that now i have a squeal from the front breaks on breaking it happens just as the car comes to a standstill .i copper slipped the new pads. Fitted to suit the new discs.and also made sure the leading edges had a bevel so no sharp edges .I have checked just about everything i can think of and can find nothing wrong .I will mention that as the old pads had only done about 10000 miles i have tried these as well.still squealing .I hope somebody can come up with an answer apart from turn up the radio Thanks mel

Did the pads or callipers come with anti squeal shims, they're pad shaped copper plates that go between the pad and piston to absorb vibrations.

Another option, someone, im not sure who, makes stick on aluminium anti squeel pads/shims which just fix to the back of the pads. They might be an option?

There is a right way and a wrong way for the calliper pistons to sit in the body, squealing can result if they are wrong.

Not all pads come with shims and MGB ones never have.

I have had exactly the same brake squeal problem since replacing the discs, calipers and pads on my 78 BGT. I have tried copper grease, anti-squeal pads, filing the edge of the pads and have even put the original 30 year old pads back in. Nothing has worked so far.
Is it possible the MGOC discs are the problem? Which ones did you put on? I went for the basic 'original spec' ones and am now considering grooved discs as my next attempt at solving the squealing.

Hi yes as you have done i have std mgoc discs .They even sent me another pr just to make sure it was not the discs .but i still have the squeal . have a rolling road test tomorrow to see if we can pinpoint it .Watch this space By the way the old discs were expensive grooved ones and they squealed too .It has gone on for so long now i have lost track of weather the squeal was there when i changed the calipers .,befor i changed the disc,s and pads Mel
