zs 180 - overheating clutch - help needed

Hi all,

So I got a new (well 2004) zs 180 the other day and it terns out there is a small issue with it. After using the clutch in stop start traffic changing gear gets harder and harder until I end up either stuck in or out of gear.

This can happen after just a mile or so of heavy traffic where 1st gear and reverse can get jammed completely.

I have just had the master and slave replace so any suggestions would be helpful.

Did you replace the master and slave with the original crappy plastic items, or did you get a "Sheddist" kit which replaces them with proper metal parts?

Assuming they are plastic replacements, did you have the slave bracket replaced as well? These are a bit 'bendy' when new but are very prone to cracking, after which you lose a lot of the slave motion. This cracking is sometimes hastened by the release arm pivot seizing in the bellhousing.

If everything else looks fine, then you may be looking at a new clutch, even if it's not slipping. As they wear the clutch travel gets longer and when hot and everything expands the clearances may be insufficient to prevent clutch drag, even with you foot on the floor.

yes it was the crappy OE slave. I didn't know this at the time. I have also looked at the metal mount and there is some movement when using the clutch but no noticeable deference when hot and cold?

I had similar symptoms and changed the Master, Slave, Clutch and then the slave cylinder bracket. In future, I'll swap the Slave cylinder bracket first! Why is the solution always the last thing I try?

If you do use the above supplier, I'd recommend that you avoid their standard delivery; it's glacial!

thanks for the update. That was my next thing to do. Unfortunately the fulline has fallen off and is a right off, part not beign made and get find out so it is now going to be put on E-bay :'(
