I've just dragged a Silver 2001 MGF out of a double garage from which it hasn't moved since at least May 2007 when the last tax run out. Literally, an old lady had the car and just parked it up in her double garage. She passed away recently.

With a new battery clagged on, it started second turn on 8 year old petrol and is actually in very good condition. Its always been garaged throughout its life and the hood, which goes up and down perfectly with an uncracked rear window, and the bodywork is like new if a bit dusty.

The CVT gearbox seems a bit recalcitrant but a flush and new fluid should solve that.

The tyres, a matched set of Goodyear on 6 spoke alloys, which were new 7 years ago, are now round and uncracked following a quick inflation and a 25 mile trip home and there's no warning lights whatsoever and the engine stays cool and the fans cut in and out as required.

Best thing is that the mileage is a genuine 23,000 ( approx).

It does have a sticky( clacking) tappet but I'm hoping some new fluids will sort that as well.

So, what do you guys think its worth? Its not mine, but a friend who is due a bit of luck.

A 23,000 miler time capsule from the early noughties.

What do you think?

Cheers,

Tony

Probably not as much as you are hoping.
I would maybe post on mg-rover.org
If you join as a subscriber, (£12.00 iirc), you could try to sell it on there (if that's your intention)

I'm thinking around £2000 tbh once its got MOT and running well. Its well below the lowest mileage MGF in autotrader atm and those seem to be around this figure so someone with an MG penchant should want it.

If I didn't already have a Cobra awaiting completion in the garage I'd keep it myself.

Cheers,

Tony
