Took my B down to Peter's place in Derbyshire the other week to get one of his fast road heads and a piper 270 cam put in it. The engine is a rebuilt 50 thou overbore 1800 with an old pico lcb manifold and an MGOC club sport exhaust on it and a 123 dizzy. Last time it was on a rolling road, it was reading 93bhp at the flywheel with an old pair of standard HIF4 carbs which were a tad worn.

I replaced the carbs over the winter but didn't do much else to the engine.

Gave it to peter who remapped the dizzy, put on one of his magic heads and did the business with the rolling road, replaced the needles in the carbs and got the car properly set up. It now has 103 bhp at the wheels and nearly 120 at the flywheel. That's a 25% increase in torque and power! Idles beautifully and revs superbly. I'd like to say fuel economy has improved, but I'm too busy hooning everywhere in it to see a massive difference yet.

Highly highly highly recommend his services and his products. Really pleasant bloke to chat with as well.

Good to hear your happy with the result of your visit to Peter, could you advise how much it cost to get the work done as I would like to do the same if my funds will stretch, thanks.

I don't wish to bring you down to earth but...........

If you had 93bhp at the flywheel to start with then you were already well ahead of the game with an engine in a significantly better state of tune than many but asking to believe that what you had done added 30hp+ I'm afraid is stretching credibility.

PB himself has said on this very forum that the transmission losses in a B are around 22hp in 4th or 26 in OD (yes it cost's that much)

If we assume 4th gear for the tests that means your original 93bhp will have been about 71 at the wheels and working back from that 103 at the wheels comes out at 125 at the flywheel so while the car might feel like it don't kid yourself for a minute that you've actually got that much under your right foot.
