Hi all

I've got a 1965 midget that's just suffered a lovely clutch failure. Engine and box now out and sat on the bench with a new clutch ready to go in.

Had the flywheel off though and the rear main seal is leaking something impressive, but I can't come across any seals for it? Does anyone know a solution to this? Can't imagine it's great for the new clutch!

Cheers

James

Try on here, really good, enthusiastic, Midget forum, the racers amongst them must have a solution.

IIRC the original relied on PCV and a scroll rather than a seal as such

As said, there in no seal as such. You can buy aftermarket kits from the likes of Peter May but they require some work to fit properly.

Thanks for the info.

I'll flush out the crankcase valve and just clean things up. I suppose any leaking prevents rust biggrin

Check there is no debris in the scroll on the crank. The slightest mark or obstruction will stop it working, also check all the crankcase breathers are clear and working correctly, any pressure in the crankcase will find the path of least resistance, ie the rear crank seal area. It's also good practice to fit a new breather/filler cap at every oil change as these are a breather cap and can block easily.
