Black MG B Roadster for sale on ebay

The car has a chrome bumper conversion, K&N, stainless exhaust, Minilites and a black interior with black leather Motalita steering wheel.

The price is £4000 which I feel is right as this is a quality B which looks and sounds amazing.

Nice to see a good looking B Gwyn - I inherited my Dad's 1981, 14,000 miles, lovely shiny example - but I'd love to know from you, what MPH do you get? This car was so rarely run in the end, that it struggles above 65mph!! Never failed an MOT though. And by the way, my garage also thought it was exempt! I'm thinking of a re-build, because I've suddenly started taking the car 'shopping' - and they are a lot of fun. I wish you all the best for your sale.

Hi Pam :wave: There's plenty of us 'B owners around

Are you sure the speed you're reaching is really 65mph? Try having someone follow you in another car and see what speed they measure.

I can hit 90+ (indicated) with ease, and I know it's fairly accurate as about an indicated 80 I'll pass most things on a dual-carriageway.

If the top speed you manage at full throttle is 65, then the car is heavily down on power, and either the timing is way off, or the engine has problems (partially blocked exhaust, poor fuel delivery etc).

One other thing to check: Does the throttle open all of the way when the pedal is pressed (don't need the engine running to check this). I remember my old man having a problem with a car that seemed gutless until he realised that the carpet was bunched up under the accelerator pedal!!

Hi, unfortunately the car didn't sell on ebay, gonna try Autotrader I think. With the K&N and stainless exhaust my B will also do 90+MPH and sounds fantastic.
Although the last MGBs struggled for power compared to the earlier models as a result of American emmissions regulations I would still expect to see 80MPH at least.
Probably needs a service but could it just be a dodgy BL speedo?

Hi Sheepy and Gwyn.
Honest - it's 65!! I have just had long talk with mechanics before reading this and you all seem to agree. He didn't think engine rebuild a great idea, and said it was way off last time they did carbs, and serviced a few months ago. I have to get car to them (see below) and they'll keep it for a few weeks having a more in depth look when they've time.

My MG has just had master cylinder renewed (via low loader by Rescue People.) Gears all lovely now, I have been driving it about. Last night, I noticed that the £20 I had put in two days earlier was half way down. I'd popped out to see son. Turned round from seeing son, went half a mile, red light came on, I looked at fuel tank, now on empty, just had time to think, what's going on, and car spluttered to a halt. (In convenient bus stop bay.) Phoned son. Son sent out a taxi for me to go to Sainsbury's for some leaded, taxi man poured in petrol, car started, off went taxi man in taxi. Then car decided it had enough, and that was that. By now flooded, I had to call out Rescue People again. I think my MG is a bit like me, gets tired, and appreciates a lift home on somebody else's vehicle from time to time!

Please don't begin to offer probable causes! There are so many! I'll print off what you put and take it to mechanics.

Gwyn - could you advertise through MG Owners Club?

Oh dear! At least an MG owner still looks good waiting for the AA!
Thanks for that suggestion, it's quite a specialist car so the owner's club would probably be the best bet.

Gwyn - Under the street lighting with all her chrome gleaming and paintwork shining, she looked so smug!
And she has that self-satisfied, I'm Queen bee look about her sitting atop rescue vehices. I have to hoot!
This has happened twice and the Auto Rescue guys just want to chat about the car, oblivious to lesser motors stuck in the rain somewhere, never mind their owners! They are soooo careful manhandling her about.

Just looked in my mag - there are 3 1981's. £3.500 - £3.700 - £4.500 it obviously depends on the car. The V8's are much more.
I got a shock some years ago when even which such low mileage etc., MGOC wouldn't insure mine for more than £7,500.

Gwyn I should have said that these prices are for rubber bumpers and as you know, chrome bumpers are more highly valued.

65mph ?? I've got a 1098 MG Midget and that can reach 65 without problems, however I tend not to go past 60 in it!

I wouldn't necessarily want to, it's just knowing it can't - and everything shakes terribly after 55. The poor old dear needs looking at ..
