For oil, I like Silkolene (PRO 4 15w-50 Full Synthetic Ester 4-Stroke Engine Oil For All High Performance Motorcycles). There's the Shell equivalent too (and probably others).

For an SR4, I have an as new, completely refurbed chassis, should you need one!

I have just bought a SR4 ZZR 1200 (dry sumped) how much oil does it take? Also I was thinking of using 20 W 50 synthetic, is that ok

Thx

Whichever grade you choose (and you will find as many opinions as you will grades), you MUST use BIKE oil!

As the gears run in the same oil as the engine, car oil has its molecular chain structure broken down by the gears and so doesn't work properly in the engine.................... weeping

More importantly, it sounds like you didn't get a manual with the car. If you PM me I'll email you a copy.

What LCM says makes good sense there.

However I would just add that in my tuned Busa's of various capacities assembled by Rob at Mistral I have always used Valvoline VR1 car mineral oil with no ill effect's thus far! (I would add that whilst my motors do get worked hard its only for very short durations & with frequent changes so prob goes someway to mitigating any problems with oil chop!)

I used to use fully synthetic bike race oil in the ZZR. However many say to avoid fully synthetic in the Busa. I'm running the Radical recommended fully synth Silkolene in mine at the mo. Any thoughts?

The avoid fully synth is a recommendation from brand new as it doesn't allow the rings to bed in properly.

After that fully synth is fine & what I would change to after the initial period on the mineral oil I use, that is apart from the problem of clutch slip the change tends to bring about......

Read the sr3 manual and for some reason I can remember that the 1340 needs to be ran on mineral to start with before moving onto synthetic but the 1500 can be ran on synthetic from new as its been bedded in when dynoed.

I gather clutch slip is the issue.

Interesting discussion guys. I asked a similar question early last year on another forum I'm a member on, thought some of you may find it worthwhile reading: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/3652...

Is it normal for the oil on the measuring stick to have bubbles in it?
