Does the oil get back from the tank?

THought I'd seperate out this topic as it interests me. How does the oil get back from the tank into the sump? Talking current spec 1500 here.

1 - Hydrostatic pressure (sump is lower than tank)
2 - As it was explained to me. There is gravity feed from the tank to an oil gallery that drops down to feed a cup-like thingy from which the (Standard Suzuki) pressure pump picks up its supply (assuming that one is using the Big R system and not a closed loop Pace one) just like it would with a wet sump.
3 - This may explain why (if you log dynamic oil pressure) you may be surprised to see what looks like surge with a "dry sump" system. I've certainly seen this with my 1500 dry sump and, if I wasn't going out to play tomorrow and spending the rest of the week trying to get my re-fitted office up and running, I'd look at some data from other BIG R dry sump engines that I've had.

It doesn't seem to do that on the current sump. The feed from the tank goes straight to a pickup that leads to the pressure pump. The pipe coming down from the engine (pressure pump) seals to the bottom of the sump with an O ring. It's def not a cup-like thingy.

That's why I wondered how the oil got back. Must be a recent imrpovement.
