Thanks for your replies. It is as I thought then a right pain in the arse. I have had noise tests done in the past on another car just outside the main briefing building so if I can negotiate this then I can just drive it from there to the pits without the speed bumps issue. Also I guess I could take the tow car (without trailer)with kit, wheels and fuel to the pit garages that way I could still leave early. We are likely to do this as a team of 3 in most cases so I guess its not as bad as it sounds. rolleyes

So here's another quick question for you guys in the know wink
Will our SR1 pass the static drive-by noise tests say at Bedford and how and where is it carried out. I'm thinking of us arriving towing the SR1 inside clam shell what is the normal procedure compared with rocking up in the car your tracking where they do it on the way in. Also as the ground clearance is minimal do you need to drop track side or is it ok around the circuit entry roads?
Thanks. Ray.
Just for your reference - I seem to remember my SR1 blowing a 98db at 0.5m and 45 degrees from the exhaust...

Just found this post. Are you planning on doing the dry sump conversion yourself? Or are you paying Radical to do it? (@Atom Ant)

Hi, I would get Radical to do the dry sump as part a complete upgrade to include the map, dry sump, slicks and rear diffuser but we want to explore the capabilities of the cup set up for a season first to learn the ropes and meet some Radical people

Ah ok, I've looked after a Radical SR1 for the last year and a bit and the owner wants me to dry sump it as Radical are a bit pricey. If you're planning on racing it in the SR1 Cup, leave it. If you want to race in the Radical Clubmans Cup then you'd need to do the upgrade. Or if you're after a fun trackday car then do the upgrade. Again, if you're going to race it, you must get a cooling fan, last thing you want is a longer than normal wait for the lights and panic about the engine temp...

Is there a disadvantage in dry sumping it for sr1 cup?

No, just the cost of £3500+VAT for Radical to do it...

I would not be lugging the weight of a fan around in a race car!

depends if you have to ballast anyway to get to min weight.

In the SR3, we were only about .5kg over min weight at Donington and I'm fairly sure (although I didn't point it out) that there was 0.5 kg in stuff (drinks, tyre pressure gauge etc) in the car by the time it was weighed. So perfect planning biggrin

Whilst a lot of people could struggle to meet the required minimum weight with an SR3 in RSC (690kg!), very few would given the SR1's required minimum weight of 560kg including driver etc for the SR1 Class in RSC (and presumably the SR1 Cup itself); I reckon that most (other than those in the Embryo Class) will weigh in at closer to 575kg plus even with the lesser weight of a wet sump and no paddleshift.

I suspect we will be over weight substantially in sr1.
Dry weight standard = 480kg
driver = 75kg maybe near 80kg with helmet and lots of water.
fuel 12kg
total= 572kg
minimum weight in SR1 cup is 560kg

Paddles, dry sump, smart cam, passenger belts, but gear linkages to remove yet.... I recon another 8kg

That will be 20 kg overweight.
I think you would have to be 10 years old or anorexic to get below minimum.

I am starting set up and corner weights tomorrow and will weigh it then.

I have a plan though.

You don't need to count 12kg of fuel. You only need 3l in at the end, so that's 2.2kg. Yes there will be a residual amount, but the total should be say 5kg not 12.

Getting excited now as the Brian James Race Shuttle 2 trailer is arriving on Friday 23rd and we have booked an early track day at Bedford on 30th Jan to shake it all down. I have got to fit the electric winch components to the trailer and make sure all the electrics work correctly via the Freelander 2 tow car so going to be a busy boy this weekend. Thanks for the tips and advice on this thread smile

I noticed a lot of trail day dates are on the Radical website now. I think they are all carried out on the back of trackdays as last year, in which case coinciding days out with radicals dates might give you a bit of support if its ever needed.

That's good to know Aycee thanks. Radical are providing a support technician for our first outing so will make things easier

How did you get on at Bedford.
I am looking to change my car for another track day car (and perhaps sprints). An SR1 has become available so was thinking of that. Bedford is my local track and am used to the set up but wanted a view since I have been black flagged for noise in my Westfield and M3 in the past.
I know that as part of the SR1 series they do the How Fast with the SR1 at Bedford so was hoping that was a good sign

Unfortunately we trailered to Bedford on Friday and within the last 5 miles or so there was snowfall. Although we managed to arrive just outside of the briefing time the whole site was closed and we were turned away. So we were none too pleased that no one had let us know during our journey. Anyway Brands Hatch is now booked for Sunday 15th Feb to do shake down.

British weather !
I hope when you get out it is a better day.

Annoyingly the car I wanted ( from James Guess ) has sold.
I have a limited budget and this was up for £17.950

So if anyone hears of an SR1 for sale let me know I have around £18k
