Flashers

Since buying my SR3 from Radical, the rear near side flasher has never worked and the off side one flashes at high frequency. I assumed there was a bulb out but now I come to check, they are both ok. I eventualy traced the fault to the connector between the shell and body, but having fixed that, they both flash with high frequency. There are no flashers at the front, so does this mean there is insufficient load for the flasher relay to work properly?. The bulbs are standard 21 watt.
My next step is to change the relay, but I have no idea about electrics, and am only guessing my way through.
Anyone have any ideas?

Well i don't need them particularly, and i've had the car for four years without using them but I put it on my list of winter jobs. If they are there, they should work, and it irks me that they don't.

Surely in the absence of front flashers, they will not work properly? Perhaps to fix it you need to spoof the relay somehow?

Yes, that's what I think too, but I am assuming that Radical, who sell these cars with lights at the rear and not necessarily at the front would fit a relay that suited it.

Unfortunately and basically yes, for them to flash at the correct rate you need front indicators to. It is load on the system that causes them to flash fast. Are you looking to install front indications?

I have no idea if there is a relay that will solve this problem!

If as it seems the problem is caused by a flasher unit that is specced to deal with (2x) 2 bulbs but is now only required to deal with one, (as they are widely available to deal with the lesser load of LED aftermarket items with less draw which leads to too rapid flashing) you should be able to find an adjustable flasher relay on The Bay which is as cheap as chips to overcome this. An alternative is to install a load resistor but best avoided as (although unlikely) they can get hot enough to melt adjacent wiring.

Good idea Trev. I will try that.
I'm suprised though, that no one else has had this issue. Perhaps no one connects up? As far as i know, rear lights but no front is standard issue, and the lighting box on my build sheet is not ticked so I guess it was built like this when new.

It's built to work if you have all 4. The logic is that if you have the rears only then you won't be indicating. And if you do, fast flashing won't be an issue. The indicators are only needed if you plan to drive on the road.

I think everyone that has an SR3 without front lighting has this issue... We certainly do on both our SR3's. Does not really bother me to be honest.
