Ooo er. I presume all the 2017 racers will have to get an upgraded engine then to be competetive?

Ah splitpin, compared to the 2015 spec engine. The 2017 SR3 spec rebuild is a new block, pistons and crank with longer stroke, its a design spec they used to use but with the improved breathing of the Gen3 heads and Venturi's. There is around 20hp and 20ft ibs extra torque from about 2K right up to the top where it joins the old curve. You can feel the difference all over the place. I'll try and put up the dyno outputs of old (2015) and new (2017) engine.

It's not two values. It used to be 40 and now increased to 45. That's how I read it.

Looks like the engine warranty is up to 40-45 hours according to the website blurb as well.

Don't quite understand why there are two values but that's good news regardless smile

I don't think there is much performance between the old rs and rsx. Ben won 2015 and jo stables 3rd last yr. I was told the rsx suffered from understeer. The extra 20hp may give an edge this year, Are there any chassis/aero changes for this year

Hi Bert, yes you are right, we can't upgrade to the same spec as the Generation 4 SR3 RSX engine, so will have to race with 20 hp down.

The new build engine is definitely quicker out of corners and gets up to speed noticeably quicker on straights like Hanger but as GC 285 says the RSX suffers from a bit of understeer if you don't get the balance right, maybe due to either less downforce on the front or less nose weight to that of the SR3 RS, either way its slow in and fast out. Maybe I'll try a different setup slackening off the front ARB. It also hurts your ears now when flat out in 2nd so I need to start using ear plugs, still I could keep them in when mrs Atom goes off on one yikes

I noticed that when I demo'd the rsx in 2015. It is very high pitched compared to the old rs and the sr1. I can remember thinking at the time that I couldn't last too long without ear plugs. In the sr1 , I never used them.

Yes my SR1 was much quieter than the SR3RSX not only in the car but for noise testing too. I'm running the quieter exhaust at the moment and that's plenty loud enough but I must say I fancy a few laps of the loud set up to wake up my new year. Doing Silverstone GP on the 6th March, may see you there.
Quick sneaky pic....

Since Phil Abbotts demise I have been back to the factory a few times.
Some of my suggestions have been acted upon but the new web site and corporate design are not my ideas
Really hope the company can regain it's mojo

Hello Mr Hyde, you have a lot to answer for! You won't remember, but it was the outing with you at Donington that got me into the Radical world. And what fun it was. Maybe I'll get back one day when I have saved enough pennies.

I hope that it gets a fresh wind as well!

Yes the rudder came off a few years ago.
I'm confident that things are heading in the right direction
