Sorry for the delay, been a bit manic around here. I couldn't get the spring completely off as mine is pinned, but hopefully this will give you an idea of what it looks like

Brilliant Rob, thanks. I assume the spring usually sits under the balls? (ooh er).

I think we just had a beavis and butthead moment biggrin

Assuming you are looking at the reverse drive as in the picture then the spring sits on top of them i.e. holds them in when the car is in forward motion.

Finally go round to looking at mine! It’s not actually on the car at the mo and no ball bearing’s or spring thingy and very oval holes. Removed the bolt at the top and the pinch grub screw on the side to remove this top bit to get a replacement made and nothing moves! Has anybody any experience/advice with removing these bits?

you have to press it apart and back together. So you take the bolt out and support the top (letting the motor and gearbox dangle) either (carefully) use a drift or a long bolt screwed into the hole or (preferrably) use a press. It's tight but not tight.

There is a woodruf key that'll come out too (PITA to get back in).

also, forgot to say that I acquired a spare (not many of those left) that could be used as a pattern for a new one to be made. I could ask the famous "Rick the fabricator" in woking how much it'd cost to make one if it helps?

He added a mod to mine to have a retaining ring rather than a spring. No idea if it works yet! It might get nadgered at my first spin and I'll be needing the spare!

A price from 'Rick' would be good. Also I know the ball bearing's are 16mm but what size are the two holes?

Colin.

I'll follow up with Rick next week when I am back from afar. I mentioned it to him last week.

The holes are just big enough for the ball bearings to go through.

Have you tried quaife direct as i'm pretty sure that they built the reverser in the 1st place.

I only base this on the reverse diff isaw on a pro6 last week which i'm sure is the quaife item

the quaiffe is the modern version and it's not electric AFAIK. We are talking about the archane bike-starter, redection gearbox and ball-bearing lashup of old!

Bert's right, the newer quaife diff has reverse built into it, its also over £2k! redface and fitting it into a club/prosport chassis would involve a fair amount of re-engineering

Thanks for putting me right , i have only looked at dsl2's pr6 in detail and assumed that the cs/ps cars were the same.

Has anyone fitted the sr3 geardrive into a smaller car ?

I've looked at doing it but again the amount of work is huge. The other downside is it weighs a ton! smile

yes it would be awesome to get rid of the chain! There is a lot of slack in the bolt adjustment mechanism on mine (bolts and threaded bushes worn), that it is a real pita to adjust. You adjust it to what you think is right, do up the lock nuts and it goes slack. So you have to adjust to slightly too loose, then do up the locknuts and hope it comes out right. Horrid.
