thanks Nick - appreciate the time..

thats just a std motorbike ramp... obviously does the job though !

will call BJ and see what they advise - assitor ramps or the longer 2.5M ramps...

on teh phone to BJ - they reckon the long (4.5Ft) assistor ramps are what i'd need... the assistor from what i could gather are designed for the tilt bed trailers - and fit into teh necessary slots and do away with the small angle/ramp on the leading edge of my trailer

he is hopefully sending pics through to see what they look like..

my custom built trailer, only prob is leading edge of ramp. The combination of the door plus ramp is equivalent to a very long ramp!

Nice job: I can see now why Gixer's problems seem somewhat inexplicable to you. BTW, BJ's ramps have a longish alloy ramp piece to ease that leading edge. Your pic seems to confirm to me that 'the longer the ramp the better' is indeed a trueism...............sorry guys, I know we've been told/whispered the contrary for years, but for once, length really does matter!!!!!

ended up getting a local machine shop to make up 8ft long ramps, with leading edge at both ends to help...

can now get the car on/off without even using the tilt bed !!

I'd say you probably could get away with 4-5ft, but with plenty of room to store under the car i didn;t want to mess about...

cam now get the car in/out of the trailer myself quite easily

Hi
I am interested in this topic as I have a similar problem.
I have a Speads RS08 and always have a problem loading it myself.
The trailer is a Brian James Sprint Shuttle with a double axle but no tilt bed.
My problem is that as I load, despite winding the jockey wheel to the highest point, the centre of the cat bottoms out on the door end of the trailer. It slides up the ramps really well but as it goes into the opening it sticks.
Anyone any ideas?
I had thought of buying the OZ made Trail-a-Mate but I cannot get hold of one apart from shipping it from OZ which is pretty expensive.
Thanks for any input.

I have a beavertail trailer with a 2 meter drop down ramp that rests 200mm off the ground when open.
I extend that by another 2 meters with modified scaffold planks and I use 1 meter planks of 12mm phenolic plywood to ease the car onto the planks.Sometimes the splitter touches but it simply slides with the ply as skids for a few seconds rather than getting gravel rash.
Once on, I move the planks so they go under the back wheels and that gets it off the ground enough so it doesnt ground on the hump of the beavertail.

It is a bit of a jiggle but with a few planks from 50mm to 12mm as spacers I always seem to manage it pretty quick on my own mostly without grounding.
50mm splitter height by the way.

Hi
Thanks for your input.
I think I've decided to purchase side winder heavy duty jack to replace my jockey wheel that will give more lift to the trailer.
If this doesn't work then it's the scaffolding boards for me.
I guess these are the problems with very low race cars.

A couple of bits of wood either in the trailer to lift the front to clear the obstruction or on the ramps in front of the rear wheels to lift the rear?

Yes looked at these but they are ridiculously expensive at £475 per pair.
Would not even consider these but thanks anyway.

Are you sure?... I paid just under £200 for the pair last year

Yes, just looked on Ebay and Demon Tweeks, I think, have them at the higher price.
Too much for me.
They look nice but I couldn't justify that.

I still think the bits of wood solution is best!
