Best tyres for an XJ8 X350

My XJ8 4.2 currently runs on 255 40 ZR 19 96Y Pirelli P Zero Assymetricos - as it has done since new. I'm due a new set of four in the near future and am contemplating a change. I like to buy the best tyres that I can for my cars, and there does seem to be a whole lot of choice out there from the big brands. Does anyone have good experience of a high quality alternative to the Pirellis?

I've always used Dunlops on my XJRs after the first one I bought had Pirelli's which were just awful in the wet and pretty st in the dry!

I have continental sport contacts all round on my xj8 they are very good alrhough dunlop sport maxx comes a close second

Not sure on the Jag as the conti's were on it when I bought it. My previous experience of contis and dunlop sport maxx on a V6 Omega was that both offered similar levels of grip but the dunlops lasted a bit longer. Contis are IMHO a superior tyre in the dry (but only just) and about the same in the wet.


Conti is more expensive.

Interesting to see that Falkens seem to be recommended , I've seen the same on the jag forums. Now I love the FK452 and use it on my Golf and TVR where they are fantastic, but when I tried them on my Omega they were awful. I think the car was a bit too heavy for them.

I appreciate this isn't a new thread, but for the benefit of future perusers...

I've got a set of Conti Sport Contact on my X350 XJR and they've lasted 10 months and 8000 miles. Not only that they give shocking road holding. Had the tracking checked 3 times in the past 8 months and everything is bob-on.

Will be keeping clear of Contis from now.

Strange one this - I went with Vredestein last time out and they were great in the dry and not so good in the wet so I've gone back to Conti Sport Contact 2's - the new 5's havent had brilliant reviews - and they are good wet and dry, I can chuck it around and never feel lack of confidence and grip. Im on 20" Rims, assume you are the same.

I do run them a few lbs under the recommended pressure but thats it - for me they just work.8000 miles , I guess you dont do much motorway work , I do about 60/40 motorway to A/B roads and I would expect about 12k from the rears and at least 20k from the fronts.
