Jaguar XJ X350
Discussion
Chaps, I've upped the budget a bit to get away from the bargain basement stuff - would rather buy a sorted car than a cheaper money pit. At £5k I reckon there are good cars but also dogs out there and even the phone calls reveal many have slipped into the hands of 'chancers'.
Up to £8k should get me a fresher car car which is newer and with less miles. And I want a cherished car whose previous owners have lavished love, and more inportantly, money on the car.
With 25k a year, I still think the V6 petrol engine is the way forward, so test drives booked to see how they run.
I'd appreciate your thoughts on these two shortlisted if I may:

Sensible 60k miles and 2006 car
Nice spec - I like the ext colour and the de-chrome and the black interior.
Dealer seems reputable, stocks some nice stuff and is very confident in the condition of the car.
FJSH.
Shame is falls into the 2006 tax banding.

Again, sensible 60k miles, but a 2005 car
I'm less on the black exterior and the interior is a bit more 'mature'
But... the Sov spec seems to include the lot! This appeals...
Dealer seems OK and is doing a hard sell on the condition - challenges me to find a fault, blemish, button that doesn't work or hole in the service history.
FJSH - looks like it went to Jag for absolutely everything.
2005 tax banding.
On paper, both look like contenders.
eta: V12 Migaloo, looks like we stumbled across the same car - cheers

Thanks for all your help chaps - new daily purchased yesterday!
Jaguar XJ6 3.0 V6 SOVEREIGN 4DR AUTO 2005
59k miles
Plenty of spec including Jaguar premium sound system, which is rather bloody good, it has to be said
Bi-Xenon headlights are great and the ride on the 19s is much better than I expected
Heated seats are lovely and looking forward to trying the heated front windscreen over the next few weeks
3.0 V6 feels up to the job of motorway cruiser, a V8 would be have been nice but I'll be putting 25k-30k miles on this car next year.
It really is a wonderfully lovely thing. Interior and exterior are spotless and the book is full of main dealer stamps.
Might not be all plain sailing though... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Very nice! I have the same pretty much - 2003 XJ6 from Arun Jag. I do 3,000 miles a month, leaving at 0530 each day and it feels special every time. Hasn't missed a beat.
Brilliant wafting!
(I paid £200 to get the XJR grill by the way which makes a huge difference to the lines at the front IMHO)
