Can you imagine putting a 2.2 diesel engine with a single tailpipe in an XJ of old?

In recession white and being rinsed around basically summed it up for me as the "new AUDI" for exec man / woman.

I would simply shudder at the thought of new Jag XF in white!
The 2.2d is a necessity for the range because it has boosted sales of the XF by a heck of a lot. I agree it doesn't have the refinement of other 4 cylinder diesel engines, but at the moment it's all Jaguar have of that capacity, economy and CO2.

I have a neighbour with the 3.0 V6 diesel who complains about the fuel economy; he would almost certainly have the 2.2d given the chance.

The idea of putting massive petrol engines in cars doesn't economically work for car companies anymore - that's a fact.

I would suggest that is driving style, nothing to do with the engine. I have driven both versions and the fuel economy was almost identical. I think it was 50mpg in the 2.2 and 48mpg in the 3.0.

I've just realised it's probably the 2.7d as it's an 09 plate. I've not driven that one. I've also driven a 3.0 and 2.2 and there was only a few mpg in it. The 3.0 is great - I always get high 40s in one.
