have been saving for a while and thinking of getting something nice

had originally had my heart set on buying a 987.2 boxster S but went and sat in one and just didn't like the interior at all and can't afford a 981.

Recently I have been drooling over the 5ltr Jaguars and still oddly can't make my mind up which one I like as they are all very nice inside and out XKR / XFR and seem a lot of car for the money.

I have about 30K which I could stretch to £32ish as no kids so don't need back seats.

Have been looking at the Jaguar site daily but nothing seems to change very much and prices seem pretty static - Having not spent more than 20k before on a car, what is the kind of negotiation on these cars ?

Would be nice to hear from any XKR convertible owners on how they are daily and any major problems with the 5ltr engines as deep down I think I like these the most.

You're in a similar position to me - I'm loosely on the look out for an 5 ltd xkr / xk in the next few months - and like you have been checking a lot of the used car web-sites to get an ida of what is going on.

I have watched nearly every video of the 5ltr XK and XKR and I'm just waiting for the summer to pass before i pull the trigger.

From my reading i'd look at around 5-10% off the list price at a Jag dealer - also depends on if they have had the car a while etc..

I've been doing lots of reading on here - https://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/f53/

I have worn many cars in the last few months as I have an itch to change my current car - and I think for the money its a whole lot of car.

Interior is a lovely place to be - and has lots of toys as standard - my only criticism of the XK / XKR is the touchscreen centre console - its a bit slow and a bit last gen compared to current offerings from Audi and BMW - but its my only criticism - but would never stop me buying an XK / XKR.

£30k would with a bit of haggling can get you in an 09 XKR with 30k+miles.

I would recommend getting the car through the Jag dealerships as the warranty is very comprehensive.

£1500 to £3000 of a used car at £30k just means it was to expensive in the first place. Used Jag stock is low nationwide at the Moment . Good luck with that negotiation !

I recently got a '09 XKR 5.0L Coupe with 18.5k mls from my main dealer for just under £31k - but I have got a good relationship with them. I slept on the price-to-change overnight and went back in the morning to agree it as I could not get that last £500 off!. Bumped into the boss as he was arriving for work and he had had an e-mail from a buyer offering full ticket price £32995 ! Thankfully he honoured our deal, but he did say that they sell about 60% of the cars like that. There were only 2 low mileage XKRs in Liquid Silver in the country at that time … PHEW!

Anyway, if you are trying to decide, let me help you …. GET ONE!

The engine is awesome, the interior is a lovely place to be - especially with the alcantara headlining. Its got style, is smooth when you want it but comes alive when you really need it. Exhaust note is nice even in standard form, with the valves opening on extra demand!! :thumb up:

How does it ride?

Most reviews say it has taken a step back in terms of comfort with the adaptive dynamics - but no one seams to say how it actually rides.

I'm currently in a MK3 Focus ST3 Estate and its firm, and it creaks... How well put together is it? any rattles?

Cheers

The Jaguar 5.0 Supercharged unit is pretty much bomb proof, I did a lot of research before getting mine, the mid range is immense, the 4.7s 0-60 time isn't too shabby, but the main reason it isn't any better, is trying to put over 500bhp down through 2 wheels!

You won't go wrong with any of your choices, however, you do get some scuttle shake with the convertible

I second what robocop has said, I think this is the best car I have ever had. I have had mine for about six weeks now and love it.

The ride to me is not much different to any other Jag I have had firm but not back breaking the handling well pretty good at the mo.

Robocop your colour was the only other colour I would have considered looks fantastic.

Cheers

Pat.

Hi Andy,

Sorry missed your question!

The answer is superbly. I don't find it harsh at all, just sure footed. Its still a Jag, so is supremely smooth when cruising or stuck in traffic… but it does transform into a lively beast if you are hard with it. Very well put together, but I will say that I think there is an improvement from my previous early X150. Interior is better quality, switches are smoother and the leather dash is lovely.

No knocks or rattles. Huge rear boots are great for putting the power down - but it is easy to spin the rears even in the dry … 510bhp is a lot of power.

I think the auto box is one of the best, and particularly in sport mode, it is very good at giving sport changes but being in the right gear at the right time. If you are twiddling the steering wheel with large inputs you can miss the optimum time to change with the paddles - the sport mode doesn't though!

Overall - a great car. thumbup

Robocop
