Jaguar F-Type Project 7
Discussion
Those of us lucky enough to have secured a car were invited to Gaydon to drive one......and more. On the day I had arranged to go the heavens had opened. It was the wettest day we'd experienced in weeks. We arrived at the gates and were escorted to the design centre by a white XJ. The two Project 7 press cars had been flown back from Spain, where they had been assigned for press rotation. A black car sat in a lake-like puddle next to a white one: both wearing grey decals and protected by their Bimimi shower caps. In the design centre we were welcomed by members of the team and I got to meet Jenny, who has always been very helpful. Wayne Burges was there to chat about the design. Breakfast canapés and beverages were followed by a driver briefing. I managed to get behind the wheel of an XK150 fixed head, an XK150 DHC, a MkII, E-Type, C-Type and D-Type. The D-Type was by far the most exhillirating for me. I clambered out of the cockpit wearing very wet clothes and a big smile. Project 7 was next. The white car that Jethro Bovingdon had played with a couple of weeks earlier was assigned to me. Very civilised, but as the Gaydon track was live with day to day testing of other vehicles, I had to behave and so won't get to test the car properly until I take mine to Bedford Autodrome. The roof worked well. No ingress of water even at 120mph and visibility was good. The roof was not fully developed apparently, but was very functional and proved that the car will be perfect for my trip the LeMans next year. Before we retired to the design centre for lunch, we drove on Landrover's own off road circuit in Defenders. Great fun day! Thanks to all at Jaguar.
It honestly feels like Jaguar staff are too embarrassed to pass on regrettable news. It's really quite rude to be frank. Despite contacting what I thought would be influential management, I couldnt get an answer on deliver....I had replies from assistants, but no delivery date. My letter from John Edwards informed me that my car would be 'in market' today. That was a few weeks ago, so I've asked if someone can update me....do I need to plan for collection? Nothing! Anyway I have resigned myself to the fact that the car will be later still and that's that. If JLR had replied that it is with regret that......bla bla it would at least be something to plan around, but instead I was told that 'Tom' would call me......is he the bearer of bad news....but still nothing.
Insurance. On a positive note I spoke to Admiral a couple of weeks ago. Initially I was given the 'computer says no' reply. I suggested that they speak with the underwriter, which they have done (they've been receptive) and now the car can be added to my Multi-car policy. It replaces another car I sold, so has NCB to apply and the price came out at a modest £830. If you speak with Admiral they now have it listed!
Good luck to all....I have now told JLR that I'll wait till the second half of September because I am busy....perhaps that wishful thinking......absolutely no idea.

Now you can see why I decided to drop out its a total joke and its niggled me so much that my new company car which was going to be a jaguar xf sportbrake was changed to a bmw 330d touring x drive m sport ordered the car 10 days ago from bmw stock will receive tomorrow that's another 46k car jaguar has lost the order for due to lack of communication.Im pretty sure that jaguar have got too complacent with all there success in the jlr range but with all this negative press they will lose sales that im sure of.

I am just about the same on all the above!cheers simon
Same old JLR/SVO arrogance, its not just "special" purchasers for the P7, a £100K Range Rover Autobiography purchaser friend gets similar. Maybe poor customer communication/relations is a JLR specialism they just don't advertise! Stuff like this starts at the top and in most major corporates would be stamped out. Why don't the motoring press see through the gloss and expose JLR arrogance I wonder? And, yes, I have a Range Rover, I am also a (lucky, I think) P7 future owner. And, yes, I will be replacing the RR soon, but it won't be with a JLR product. As for the P7, I joked with my mate that when we pick it up (delayed), it will break down on the M6, that's about the level of confidence JLR have instilled in me about their product. For good customer service try Porsche...or Lexus....
It's a shame Jaguar have dropped the ball on the P7. Honesty goes along way, however I expect Jaguar are terrified about 'bad press' so better to say nothing than anything.
I do feel Jaguar have got a bit too far ahead of themselves, talking up the product, being all flash and then not delivering. Back to basics IMHO, don't let the headlines drive the product, but the product to make the headlines......

I had a very polite and helpful phone call today from Jenny who explained why there was a small delay with my car.
I was really pleased to receive the call and I'm happy to be patient - these are special cars and worth the wait whilst the engineers perfect the little details that make them special.

My Project 7 was on display at the Royal Concours at Holyrood House in Edinburgh at the weekend. It was the first time I'd seen it with all the bespoke bits fitted and have to say I'm really chuffed with the way it's turned out.
Understand it should be on it's way to my dealer later this week, so may hit the road in time to drive to Goodwood Revival this weekend..
