Jaguar F-Type Project 7
Discussion
I’m certainly hoping that the recently announced MY changes for the F-Type will be incorporated into the Project 7. The improved SatNav and associated improved connectivity are long over due I think.
With regard to colour – I too had wanted the original prototype blue (Ecurie Ecosse) and was disappointed to find that the blue on offer was the standard ‘French Blue’. If the original blue (as seen on the prototype) had been on offer I would have chosen it I think, but as it was not (at least not without the considerable extra cost and possible delay in production) I went with British Racing Green which I think suits the car equally as well and is perhaps even more recognisable in terms of the D-Type racing heritage.
Roll on May…ultimately, the colour worries me less than the overall driving experience. And as none of us have driven it yet, I can only go on what Harry has said!

Sounds like a good choice Trevor. Its what I want but am baulking at the cost. Still have not decided
I could be wrong but I don't think the French blue that is on offer is metallic.
Yes the price is very off-putting. When I spoke to Jenny, she said that the decals can be properly painted in and the depth and finish is better than standard: a bit of a consolation. When I went to the factory a couple of weeks ago there were colour samples available and the Ultra-Blue definitely appeared to be metallic Charlie. It's a standard colour available on the XF- RS, so you can probably see it at your local dealer. I could be wrong but I don't think the French blue that is on offer is metallic.

That I could do without!
It's supposed to be good (the electric steering) but I'd be happier with a traditional hydraulic set-up to be honest – I don’t care about improved fuel efficiency…
Gentlemen, it's good to know that I was not the only one going through the same thoughts. I would have settled on BRG to be honest, but my wife gave my her blessing on the crazy price, so I seized the moment. This is a big deal for me as I've never spent this much on a car before. I don't want the colour to delay delivery and as I have my heart set on taking the car to LeMans in June, I could end up with BRG if Jenny gets back to me with disappointing news. Really hope we get the MY upgrades.....but happier with the hydraulic power assist.
Anyone else planning to go to Le Mans?
Another Project 7 order here:
BRG, decals, suedecloth steering wheel, option alloys, forceContact tyres (though possibly thinking of changing these for the P Zeros), illuminated tread plates and 4 point harnesses.
Really looking forward to the car and hoping too that the MY16 changes are incorporated into our cars. Should hear back from the SVO team on that front soon. As a side point, have any of you been contacted by your local dealership to sign the spec yet? Mine says they haven't heard about this yet.

Yes, I'm planning on taking the Jag there too. Maybe we'll bump into each other if both our cars make it to us in time.Peggsy said:

Just had an email from Jenny at SVO. They can't guarantee the car for Le Mans in a bespoke colour. I have been asked if I want to revert to a standard colour....frustrating and now unsure of what to do!
That's quite the predicament... not sure what I would do in that situation. Just because they can't guarantee it doesn't mean there is no chance of it happening.Has anyone heard from their dealership to sign yet? No contact on my end...

I had the call from my dealership yesterday to come in and sign the order form confirming my specification etc. There seems to be no great rush or impetus to do so, but I’ll probably get it done before Christmas. It seems to be a little more real now – looking forward to signing the paperwork, the countdown will really begin…
So I signed the paperwork confirming my order just before Christmas and everything seems to be on track for a delivery in April or May hopefully.
Has anyone yet seen anything definitive on the design of the roof? Harry gives details of the proposed solution in his YouTube video of the car and it sounds very much like a cross between the Elise and the Boxster Spyder in its fitment and operation, but I’m also interested in how it looks on the car…

Its a great car, no doubt, but even though many cars today are better looking, higher performance, better handling, safer and cheaper than their forebears, I don't think that we are going to see classics emerge in the same way they used to.
For that, they would need to win Le Mans in a P7. Maybe Le Mans ought to be run for cars like the P7, then we might see some real action.

I agree with Cardigankid on present cars been future classics, the number 1 problem is electronics. Since 2000 the amount of electronics in a car has gone through the roof and the shelf life of these electronics has got shorter. With ever more complex engine management systems, electronic invasive and passive safety features. What's the likelihood of getting hold of these electronics in 10 years never mind 30 years time. You could buy the car and let it collect dust but to drive it may be almost impossible, the more exotic the car the more chance it has bespoke electronics present.
Just a quick note for those of you wanting your P7's for Le Mans; I begged and pleaded for my dealer and JLR to deliver my F-Type Coupe last summer in time for Le Mans. They originally got me a delivery date of the day before! This then changed to a month later and I decided not to book the trip. The car eventually arrived, completely without notice, a week before! Unfortunately by then it was too late to sort everything out in time. So just a point that JLR's delivery dates seem very 'fluid'!
There is a reserve list for the car, so currently demand exceeds supply. On that basis the price should hold or perhaps appreciate. The unknown is how many of those that have been confirmed a car are speculators intending to flip it for a quick profit. If the reserve list is still not satisfied by the speculator, demand will continue to exceed supply. The car could be safe and hold its price if that's what happens: that would be great for all of us that have been allocated one. There are modern classics that appreciate and they are always special limited run models. If the car depreciates, so be it: I'm keeping mine.
I've booked my trip to LeMans in another car, so would be able to switch cars in the event that it arrives in time. If it does, what a bonus!

Just happened to be walking through the workshops today and what did I see? Yep Project 7.
Very impressive in the flesh and in a lovely metallic blue.
A couple of apposite names on the flanks; a Mr Cross and a Mr Callum.
I have to say that what I first saw in photographs left me cold, but the reality has changed my opinion.
