I have just had my Daimler repainted, during this process I had the handles, bumpers, door cards and lights removed, putting everything back on I now find the dashboard semi powers up (dash illumination, all warning msgs in green box) and all this without putting the key in the ignition.

Using the key does absolutely nothing, no effect on rotating, the alarm seems to work ok.
I have had an auto elec look at the car but he cannot find anything wrong? Any ideas greatly appreciated

Thanks
Danny

Presumably you had to disconnect the battery before removing the parts? When you reconnected the battery it must have been a while since disconnection - was the battery in a FULLY charged state at that point? As you are probably aware these cars need an absolutely top notch fully charged battery to prevent all sorts of electrical malfunctions - especially spurious error messages. The body processor module looks like the culprit, but should respond to a good battery. Assuming (again!) that you are confident that everything was connected correctly on rebuild, I would disconnect and fully charge the battery (and touch both terminals together momentarily to dissipate any unwanted charge - naturally with NO BATTERY in circuit!!) and then try again after you are confident the battery is up to strength.
Please let us know how you get on,
Ian

Ian thank you very much for the information, battery has been swapped over just in case this was the cause, I have not tried touching the 2 terminals together to dissipate any current so will give this a go, if no joy here I do have another car I can take the BPU from but don't know where its located so please could you let me know?
Cheers

Hi Danny,
I really don't think you can easily change the Body module as it is programmed to recognise all of the other components - in other words, a main dealer with FULL diagnostics job. Did you try it with a dissipated charge and a VERY good battery? Also if your remotes do not activate anything, did you try locking and unlocking the car with the key to see if it responded?

I really don't think there should be any failed units if all you did was remove the bits you outlined, so assuming everything went back together with the battery disconnected no harm should have been done. Not sure if there is a power up reset which can be done on these models. Perhaps a PM to jaguarsteve might help you.

Ian thanks very much again for the advice and info, I think I may have to pack it off to XJ Motors in Chertsey and let them get to the bottom of it as they have all the necessary equipment to diagnose.
