Hi all, first post in the Jag forum and I'm hoping for a bit of advice. My dad recently bought a XF 3.0D S and I have to say, what a wonderful car. But, two weeks after getting it, the boot stopped opening using the key fob (and I think the button in car - if it has one). Essentially the only way he can get in the boat is to stick the key in it and twist old style!

He got it from an independent dealer and despite paying proper money for it (10 plate), the dealer won't even consider fixing it under warranty. Dad doesn't want a fight (just retired, trying to relax) so has just accepted that he'll have to sort it himself. I've told him I'd talk to dealer as I'm sure they should have to fix it as it seems quite an integral function of the car. He'd rather I didn't though.

It's a real shame, this is his dream (attainable) car - the issue may sound minor but it's spoiled it a bit for him.

So, does anybody have any ideas of what we might be looking at here? Could it be a big cost? I'm guessing it's not a home job at least...

Just to note, the car has a reversing camera that only works half the time. Dealer covered himself there by not listing it in the ad details! But maybe there's a problem with the electronics at rear end.

Also, if anybody knows any good Poole or Bournemouth area Jag independent garages, please let me know.

It is a fantastic car and despite the faults I think I might get one for myself at some point smile

Boot opening issues on Jags tend to be a break on the wire connecting the motor to the button. Try tracing the cable they often go where they pass under the trim round the boot edge.

Boot opening probs on pre-facelift are well documented. However, I'd be quoting the SOGA to the dealer, and get him to fix.

Thanks for replies. Had a look at Jaginfo and it sounds like the loom, because of the camera thing too. I was more than happy to speak to dealer but dad really didn't want to push it so next best thing was to ask PH... helpful as ever so cheers!
