Evening folks,
Mind if I tag along?
I know that 'rat look' E Types are the in look, but if you'll forgive a shiny one:
Just out of a sympathetic restoration, it should keep this old girl company, when she's not gazing out to sea:
By the way, the plane's not mine. Some nice bloke let us park in front of it...
That XJ is just lovely Mind if I tag along?

+1. Can we have some more pictures please?
Sure - but its quite amusing as I expected its older sister to grab all the attention...!It arguably should be in the Daimler VDP thread in the Classics section, but the ones there are SO much nicer painted than this one, which still has at least partially original paint, and so wearing a few parking dings now, that we daren't show our face over there...
On the plus side, she's been in the family since new, and has now racked up nearly 34,000 miles! She gets washed regularly once every 5 years (whether she needs it or not), and apart from that stays bone dry. That, I'm convinced, is the only way to stop these cars from dissolving. Its a 1978 build - the lowest of the low for BL build quality...
Having owned it for 25 years, I must admit to accepting some poor colour matching in the past, back when it was 'just another cheap old Jag'. Check out the near side doors. I'm saving my pennies to give her a proper glass out respray - one day

Are those mirrors original? someone put bullet mirrors on my coupe and they are useless so I'm looking to replace
No, those look like Series III mirrors. The series II VDP had a single chrome mirror on the driver's side only, it's a more streamlined design than the standard Series II mirror, it might even be exclusive to the VDP, but I'm not sure.Lovely car I've got a 1975 one which is in need of a bit of welding.
[quote=craigjm]Are those mirrors original?
Hi,
The car is one of the last of the Series 2's made. As such, although it has the twin SU's of the Series 2, it has quite a few bits out of the Series 3 parts box.
From new it came with just the single driver's side rear view mirror - same one as seen in the photos. When it was about 5 years old, we asked the main dealer to add another for the passenger side. They had a bit of difficulty with the location on the door skin, as the S2 has the vertical 'quarter-light' bar, whereas the S3 has none. The struggle was to get the cabling for the remote handle to sit in a 'natural' place, if that makes sense?
My car also has, I notice, Series 3 brake master cylinder and reservoir etc - but due to the lousy build quality then, it leaked brake fluid all over the inner wing, and took the black (not body coloured) paint off.
Fairly typical of Jaguar to raid whatever was in the parts bin at time of manufacture. We struggled sometimes with getting the E-Type 'right'. But if anyone wants a photo of a certain area of the Daimler, I can 100% vouch for its originality, so you would be getting a pic of how it left the factory. (+35 odd years of grime!!)

Apparently the TWR engine is 380bhp. I dont want to put a manual in because i am an old fogey when it comes to changing gear The engine management is an upgraded ECU from AJ6 engineering and the exhaust is theirs too. I have emailed them to ask what else they fitted because apparently if you fit everything from them then you can get 450bhp!
I need to dyno it really
The 380bhp engines are the 6.1L V12 non-Zetec versions that TWR hand re-built and put in the handful of non-Jaguar full XJS conversions offered direct to customers they did from 1984 to mid-1988. They had changes to the standard HE head/valves to get the additional power increase on top of increased capacity and larger bore intake/exhaust. I need to dyno it really
Those engines are different to the Zetec 6.0L V12 engines used by Jaguarsport in the Jaguar joint venture XJR-S from 1989 onwards, which produced up to 333bhp depending on year. Those only had altered capacity and the breathing/exhaust changes with a standard HE head, so they were a lot easier to produce from a standard 5.3 V12 in the quantities needed for the full XJR-S production run.
Hi there
A couple of pics of my S1 2+2 that is just getting ready for paint and my previous one that caused all this work. Lots of panelwork done over a couple of years, stripped and then dipped the shell to find that it was pretty good but thin in places. New inner and outer sills with strengthening webs inserted to protect against side impact. Otherwise absolutely standard work. Currently car is back at Envirostrip for a final dip and two pack coat. Plenty of options ahead for the build but leaning towards standard where visible. I ran the gunmetal one as my company car for about 18 months and regretted selling it 3 years ago so started this one. Still not decided on colour, its a close call between gunmetal, primrose and opalescent blue. As with any difficult choice it clearly doesn't make much difference because I still cant make my mind up. Original colour was regency red which works well on my Double Six coupe but not so well on the S1.
