I know this has been covered at some point previously but I can't find exactly the info I'm after!

I will soon be needing to purchase a infant car seat and I'd like to get something that will fit in the rear of my XKR. I do have the performance front seats if that makes any difference?

Help, I'm clueless. (Any other info on what the hell to do when you find yourself responsible for a small person also gratefully received smile

When I bought my XK8, I took it to Halfords and asked to trial fit a few car seats. They were more than happy to pull the display seats from the shelves and let me try them in the car.

I know you have a different car but I found that I needed one with a narrow base at the rear to fit snugly in the contoured rear seats.

Suspect Jaguar also do car seats as an accessory but also suspect they'll make your wallet bleed!

I asked about this a while ago on jaguarforum.co.uk. The best recommendation I got was the Britax DuoPlus. Jaguar dealers do resell some car seats but probably at a healthy markup - have a look on the Jaguar UK website and see what's on offer as they should fit, then shop around.

Worth mentioning is that you won't be able to put a rear-facing one in, they're too big, so you'll need to wait until your child is big enough for a front-facing seat (around 9 months old IIRC).

Oh - congratulations smile

Cheers guys.

I will look at the Britax one and perhaps take my car along to one of those baby seat shop places or Halfords etc.......even the thought of having to do this feels bizarre!

Forward facing is probably better anyway with my driving.........;)

As I said, I think it's law that you have to use a rear-facing seat until the child is over 9 months or so. By that time he or she should be beyond the point of random projectile vomiting etc. though... wink

I'm using the Britax baby safe sleeper. It sits across the back seats and clips to the seatbelt at either side.

I literally tried every combination as I was trying to convince my wife that with a new baby, and XKR would be a good proposition. It was. smile

It's suitable for up to about 10 months (our daughter is 8 months and its now getting a little 'snug') but then you can move to a forward facing seat when they get big enough.

Cheers again guys.

This side facing idea looks interesting - is it easy (ish) to get it in&out from the rear?

Our other car is a Z4 so if we can't all fit into the XKR then I may as well have bought the F Type and accepted taking both cars!

Yep - I jsut leave the buckles on the seatbelts, then the seat just clips in and out when needed.

Front legroom is fine - I am 6 foot 4 and my wife is 6 foot 1. We have done lots of long (3+ hours) trips with it and have had no problems at all. The look on some peoples faces when you get out of an XKR with a baby is priceless!

Well this is turning out to be a pain in the arse!

Today I went to my local Jaguar dealership to pick up the XK infant carrier and guess what?

It doesn't ruddy well fit into the rear seats! Although you can physically get the thing into the back of the car, you can't really get to the belts to strap it in place and more importantly, you can't then put front passenger seat back in place even with it as far forward as it will go.

The darn thing appeared to be one of the standard Britax seats anyway rather than anything Jaguar specific.

I have complained to Jaguar UK about the situation but that's not really going to achieve anything!

The Britax Babysafe Sleeper appears to be the only possible option but that's probably only good for 6 months anyway.

Anyone else solved this problem?! It's a 62 plate XKR with performance seats.

Just to keep adding to this thread, now our little girl has turned 1 and has outgrown the baby safe sleeper I just got a Brittax Duo Plus forward facing seat which from much research is the only seat that will fit properly into the back of the XKR.

Well I'm off to Mothercare after lunch, I believe they stock the Britax Babysafe Sleeper.

It does mean that we have to buy another seat for the Z4 but that will save having to remember to put the seat in the car I guess!

Is the Babysafe Sleeper easy enough (comparatively) to get in/out of the XK?

How much room is left for the front passenger with the Duo Plus behind it? I need to get something for my own XKR soon.

Apparently the Britax Versafix also fits and is a little more compact (3cm) so allows a little more space for the front passenger.

depends how tall your passenger is. My wife is 6"1' and we all fit ok. I haven't come across the Versafit before

Yes it's easy enough to get in and out - I do it from the passenger side, slide the passenger seat all the way forward (then store that position in the seat memory so next time you can do it quicker) then you just leave the safe sleeper clips fastened to the seatbelts and clip the seat in and out. Easy. ish.

Interesting, thanks. So I guess you can still get the passenger seat back far enough to be comfortable and still allow enough leg room for the infant in the rear?

The Versafix I gather is fairly new, and is the replacement for the Duo Plus.

No probs, I havent got it in at the moment and am working away, but I'll try to take a few photos this weekend. I've just been reading about the versafit and it looks good - I saw your thread about it on the Jaguar forum, and if it's a little smaller than the Duo Plus that can only be a good thing.

Irritatingly, Halfords, Mothercare and ToysRUs don't have this in stock. It's order only, because I have the performance seats in my car I'd have liked to have tried it out before buying.

Going to have to order it and hope it's ok!

Contemplating popping over to OPC Bristol now look at 991's - rather than wasting an entire day!
