I've got this option on my new XKR 5.0 but it only sounds really good when driving in dynamic mode - is this normal?

Do I need to remove the fuse as I did in my 2010 XKR 5.0?

As I said, in dynamic mode it sounds fantastic but in D or sport mode it's not as nice as my old car with the fuse pulled.

Yes - fuse 19 from the compartment in between the rear seat backrests. I have a 4.2 XKR with the Spires stage 1 center section which is basically the same as the performance active exhaust on the 5.0 XKRs, I have fuse 19 removed also and it sounds fearsome all the time. It passed MOT like that a few weeks ago too so no worries there.

That's more like it! It's even better than my previous XKR (which sounded pretty good with fuse 19 gone).

The car now growls, pops an bangs much like the F Type R - similar exhaust?

Not sure, I did notice mine started popping a little bit on overrun and downshifts in S mode once I had the Spires fitted so if I had to guess I'd say the F-type R maybe didn't have any center silencers either.

Wait til you do a cold start in a multistorey car park wink

Can you do this to a 5.0 XK N/A Engine?

Unfortunately not. The N/A cars don't have the active exhaust valves. If you want a moderate increase in noise (i.e. significant but not antisocial) then the Spires Performance "stage 1" exhaust will help. It basically replaces your center section which has one or two small silencers with a new section which has no silencers.

Does anyone know if there is the same fuse on the xfr?

On another forum, there are some posts about how the flap gets 'stuck' if you leave it on the on position.

With the fuse in place, it automatically puts it to standard mode when you switch the car off, and then remembers whether it was on (if switched off within a short period) and switches it on again.

I've been tempted to do mine - but I just press the button...

No - the XFR has a passive system which relies on exhaust gas pressure to open the flap - so no elecronics involved and therfore no fuse.

That is a bit disappointing, looks like I will need to raid the savings jar for a bit of Spires magic

Maybe not actually - I hadn't realised the XFR system had variable exhaust, even gas-pressure operated valves. It might be possible to rig them so they're open all the time?

When I pulled out fuse 19 on my car I found it no louder at wider throttle angles or high revs, just a bit more vocal low down the range where the valves would be closed anyway.

Is this a simple job? Or can I F**k it up?

Quick question on this. With the Spires stage 1 are the flaps still operational? I'm assuming they're located in the rear section, so the car is quiet(ish) at light throttle unless fuse 19 is pulled.

Very simple job - the back rest panel between the rear seats needs to be pulled off. You will then have access to the fuse board required - simply remove fuse number 19.

They are, yes - the valves are in the rear section with the back box, the Spires stage 1 replaces the standard mid section with two small silencers, with a new part which has no silencers and a cross-over pipe.

Agreed, the only way to F**k it up would be pull the wrong fuse for something important. IIRC there's a small fuse puller clipped inside the fuse box, use that rather than a metal tool like pliers or a screwdriver just in case you short something out.

I have a 2007 4.2L XKR and also a 2011 5.0L XK.

Does this fuse 19 trick work on these?? :-)

Thanks.
