Afternoon,

I've been out looking at the Jaguar again this afternoon as I intend to buy some new tyres from Camskill and take them off to get fitted. I struck upon a problem, or perhaps a quandary, whilst looking at the car this afternoon.

When I bought it, there was a locking wheel nut key in the arm rest storage bin. Without thinking too much of it, I assumed this key would relate to the car. You may be familiar with the design, it's the usual hexagonal shape with two small 'teeth' pointing inwards near the lip. I thought 'before I order any tyres, I better be sure I've got the right key', having previously ordered some tyres from Etyres, and then been unable to locate the locking wheel nut key when the fitter arrived! Turns out, it's not the right size and the 'teeth' don't correspond to the nuts on the car either.

I looked at my wheels, and the nuts are all uniform hexagonal shapes with a hemispherical top aside from one on each wheel, which has a rectangular groove set over the top. Is this a locking nut? I can't see anything obvious in the design that would stop a standard wheel brace from unscrewing it. Does it require a particular key?

I'd be tempted to grab a torque wrench and try unscrewing it now, but the street outside is filthy with leaves, rain and mud at the moment so I thought I'd ask here before I get carried away.

there is a plastic tool that looks like a tube that lives in the boot with the jack, it goes over the stainless cap and just tugs it off.

revealing a locking wheel nut underneath, the key to which should be in your spare wheel packthumbup (or said key in your centre console)

The pieces have all come together beautifully this afternoon, thanks for the assistance!

I located the sleeve for the locking nut cap and popped it off, before looking at the locking nut and thinking "st". There was one piece missing from the spare wheel kit in the boot (which otherwise, is pristine and obviously never used) which I figured would be the locking nut key.

I went back into the house, cursing at having to probably shell out to Jaguar for a new key (and probably having to let them see the car before they would authorise selling me the key). Then I read your post, and dashed back out - I'd forgot all about the part in the centre console! What do you know, it worked! Top stuff guys, thank you!
