First post in this section and after some advice please. Been looking at x types, had limited my search to under 80k miles. But... some cars a lot nicer but with well up to 100k on them. Question is, what is the 2.2 diesel engine good for, if well serviced etc?

The actual engine is very durable, its the same as mondeo and very very similar to Transit, and they do 300,000 miles.

I have had to do the timing chains and tensioner before due to rattles. They have been known to jump a teeth if the tensioner fails completely but not mega common.

BUT !

The aditional parts, such as the high pressure fuel pump the injectors and the electronic EGR valve and electronically controlled Turbo are more prone to failure with milage.

I am looking for a 2.2D estate to replace my wifes 2.0D. I', finding the same as you, I'm happy with up to 100 - 120,000 miles more than that and the rest of the car is falling apart, suspention bushes interiors etc.

I found one that had turbo and egr valve replaced recently as was gonna go for it but I want :- Cruise, heated seats and screens + Nav + premium sound, and the car doesnt have all of those.

So the search continues. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Yes, it's getting one that ticks ALL the boxes that's a problem.

Same as early 2000s Mondeo engine, but different to current Mondeo?

I did 350,000 on the 2 litre version in a Mondeo. Always used Ford spec oil and ran it on BP.

Excellent, thanks for all replies. I'll widen my search, brings in a lot more potential cars.

Just to alleviate any fears of the rest of the car at higher milage: Yes bushes etc wear out, but they're all very cheap to buy and pretty easy to fit so don't worry too much about it.

My own 2.2d has done over 100k & most of it in my ownership. Not had a single engine related issue. But mine is properly serviced & looked after. The only things mines needed apart from consumables is a few suspension bushes on the back end. But they are cheap & easy to replace.

Before the 2007 facelift only autos had DPFs fitted unless the first owner specified one. I bought as late a 2.2 Sovereign Estate as I could without DPF and it's a very nice cruiser and general hack with only just over 42,000 miles on the clock. There may be a problem with auxiliary belt tensioners and crank pulleys but that is a fairly minor fix.

There were no diesel autos before the final facelift.

The 2.2D is definitely the way to go, much better engine than the 2.0, which is still a decent engine, but the 6 speed box and extra power make a huge difference. I've driven both and owned my 2.2D Sport since June 2010. I've had no major issues with it at all, it was Jaguar serviced for its first 2 years under my ownership and since then I do all the basic servicing and only give it to Jaguar if I cannot do it myself. The car is immense, not only does it look the part but its trusty, reliable and looks expensive. Definitely shop around, there are plenty out there and like any other car not all of them are going to be fault free. At 100k you want to look at replacing the rear aux belt (there is an uprated tensioner which cures excess squeaking and rattling at idle - fit that if not done so already)makes a huge difference, change gearbox oil, clutch and DMF should be checked, make sure clutch doesn't pulse when pressed. These are expensive repairs if they do need doing. Injectors and EGR can last for years and years, mine are fine. I've done 60k trouble free motoring in my Jag and have just clocked 104k. Look after it well and it will go on forever.

I was obviously misled but when I researched for my purchase I didn't want auto anyway so took less notice of the data. The intention was to avoid a DPF and so I was asking around about which versions had one and otherwise.
