Mate, you're obviously biased and aren't going to like any criticism of the car. That's fair enough.

All I'd say is that a leggy old XJS is a daft place to put money at the moment and if they are rising in value that's no different to any other old car at the moment.

All bubbles burst and this one will be no different. However, when it does, there are many other cars I'd rather be left with than a leggy XJS. Serious colds will be caught and the people who can only stretch to £10K or so in the hope of a killing are going to suffer the most. At the true top end, it won't matter a jot to an owner whether their car is worth £5M or £2.5M.

That's very good advice. I've been a Jaguar owner since I was in high school. I think I've owned eleven or twelve. Still have one (not an XJS).

I think a very early XJS with a manual gearbox is one of the most desirable classics ever. A friend of mine has an immaculate one and it is just my idea of a perfect car.

But as the poster above says, an leggy, old XJS is not an appreciating asset. far from it.

And they are old now, so it's quite likely they have stellar mileage.

Anyone "who can only stretch to £10K or so in the hope of a killing" is going to be disappointed at best, no matter what sort of classic they chose. For every 1 person who makes money there will be 999 who lose.

Buy a car because you like it and because you want it.
