I am a huge fan of the XJS and had a few in my time but recently I have found the prices have really started to rise.
Noticed a convertible for £34k and some Coupe's for £15k plus. Its about time people realised just how good these cars really are and it looks like prices are now reflecting this.....AT LAST

There is a lot of interest in the XJ-S now. It does not surprise me that prices are rising. I have regarded them as very underpriced for what they are for many years.

Might be a bit difficult to sell as it's under Saab in cars section of Ebay (looking at that link)

One of the reasons I've held on to mine for now John. I was so very close to putting it on the market last week but had a change of heart, they're such great cars really.

Are you not tempted to buy yourself another one whilst values are still relatively low? I've more or less completely refurbished mine underneath so far, bit of welding and completely rebuilt the rear IRS to better than factory standard. The front subframe is in line for some care now with new springs, shocks, bushes the lot. Going to strip the front end off over the next few months and do engine valve clearances, belts, thermostats, hoses etc.
Worth doing to keep her in fine fettle for another few years I think.

I am actually just working the "man maths" out with the missus Actually thinking of selling the XKR and going all out for a 6.0l convertible

I have a '95 XJS 4.0L. I love this car. The '92-'96 models are the best for reliablity, with the '95-96 having the AJ16 engine. Some quirks, but I would hate to sell this car!

I had a late May 96 Celebration I just don't know how I decided to sell it.
Once you have had a "good" XJS they get under your skin

They really do seem to improve the more they are driven. They appear to hate, worse than any car, to sit idle for long periods. New calipers and alternator in a DIY project and I am rolling again. smile Locally sourced parts for a total of $253.

they received such a bad press initially and I agree they need to be driven to get the best out of them

That which caused the bad press was mostly corrected by the time the Facelift versions emerged ('92-96). I do most of my own work when needed without much horror.

I was tempted to buy a 1995/96 celebration model earlier this year but decided a 2003 xkr for £12k was a more usable and sensible choice.

I have a XKR and they are completely different cars and I had a May 96 celebration the celebration was every bit as useable as the XKR

It's a fact that early XK8's and XKR's can be had for very little money. Many see them as a modern classic and choose them over the XJS, which must surely have an effect on XJS prices.

Having said that, and to contradict myself, some XJS models do seem to be moving up in price. I keep hankering after an XJS having owned two in the past, albeit many years ago.

I need to have a test drive first as I'm not sure how the passing of time will have treated them and I don't want to end up disappointed.

My old man had an XJS convertible. N reg I seem to remember, so 1995. It was the 4 litre auto. An absolutely lovely car and a real pleasure to drive or ride in as a passenger. Great for a long run or a quick blast. Sadly, he sold it or it probably would have ended up with me. I remember he bought it as a fun car with the idea it might also be an investment around about 2000, the thinking being they wouldn't get much cheaper. They did. I think he, sold it for about £8k or £9k. Someone got a lot of car for their money.

I would be very tempted but if I was in the market for one I may chose the XK coupe over it.
