If that was the Cambridge dealership I was there at the same time. Your Sag was quite the thing for the receptionist, she thought you were Batman in it. smile

Tried the V6S which when compared to my current car (just a Nissan Juke) was amazing. The concept of it not being that exciting seems crazy to me, but then having never driven a TVR that's not surprising.
Hi Dave, I made the mistake of taking the 5.0L out first, and so to be honest the V6 was always going to be on a sticky wicket!
The fact it had only done 80 mikes and so had to keep the revs down, didn't help, whereas the 5.0L had done 6k miles, so could make full use of the revsbiggrin
I took the Sag along, so that I could jump straight back into it after both test drives so as to get a direct comparison. They are of course like chalk and cheese, and that was very evident. However, the Sag will be staying. Whenever you pull into a garage, people always look like a spaceship has just landedhehe
I like the convert best and like the 5.0L, so will be looking for a 5.0L Convert S. I know that this will be with the lower powered engine, but 495 BHP is still more than enoughsmile
Will you be persuing Jag ownership?

Shame you couldn't thrash it as hard as you have liked. The V6 I drove had done 5 miles but after 5 minutes they were happy for me to take it to the red line smile.

Jag ownership will depend on this weekend. I've got a drive in the M4 on Friday, then back to Jag on Saturday for a second drive of the V6 and a quick go in the 5L Coupe (to try out the hard top rather than the engine as I want a V6 coupe but the demo is a convert). As the first drive was by far the most powerful thing I've driven on public roads I couldn't really relax and have fun with it like I would like, this weekend I won't make the same mistake.

Then it depends on which I prefer, the (relatively) more sensible M4, or will the looks and sound of the Jag win out?

Hi

Thats what did it for me the noise of the V8, my 997 has no sports exhaust and I have always hankered after that. Going to see the car Thursday but 95% sure a deal on the R will be done.

If and when I get it I will need to learn how to post some pictures as I am new to this forum! Long time lurker!!

Thanks Nomal.

The noise the F-type makes for me is the differentiator .... I'm surprised it's legal

I suppose that's why it has the loud button so that when they were measuring it for noise levels it was switched off

I agree , on start up with the loud button on as demonstrated by the dealer it was loud!! So loud in fact that I am worried that the neighbours will complain when it's fired up in the garage :rolleyes

Thats the beauty of a switched exhaust when you don't want to wake up the neighbours just have it in quiet mode.

When you fire it up the bypass valve is always open. There is no way to do a stealth startup unfortunately. It closes after about 30 seconds but by that time the neighbors will be awake.

I don't know about the F-Type but my XKR isn't very subtle when it starts up. I wish I could turn off the showy blip of the throttle it seems to go in for.

Didn't drive the F type as the boss vetoed it and I didn't want to drive something I wasn't going to buy.

So I had thought it would be the same as the one on my old Vantage where it could be permanently quite, permanently loud or factory ecu settings.

It's the same on the F-Type, there is no way to quieten down the throttle blip on startup. It sounds great, but my neighbours did complain when I had to make a trip around midnight recently. Why dogging can't be done at more sociable hours I'll never know.

Well I have put the deposit down on the R just need to get rid of the 997 now, I will post some pictures but in the mean time the spec is

R Coupe Unregisteredsmile
Salsa Red
Sports design pack
Black pack
Black wing mirrors
Gloss Black Gyrodene alloys
Panoramic roof
Heated seats
Jet leather with red stitching
Red seat belts
Visibility pack
Parking pack with rear facing camera
Blind spot monitoring

Just a word of warning if you're tall. Any F-Type with Performance seats will catch the top of your spine after a while.

The built-in headrests start too low down.

I had to hunt around for a car with the standard seats. I really wanted an R but after an hour the seats had got me! There's no option to downgrade the seats.

I now have a great fun V6S Coupe with standard seats - lovely!

The dealers I've spoken to are aware of the issue but Jaguar are doing nothing yet to rectify it. :-(
I was lucky enough to spend hundreds of hours in f types during development and although you're right about the headrest/spine it never particularly bothered me (I'm 6ft5). But the reason nothing will change about it - watch any Mike Cross (Chief Engineer) videos and he's hunched right over when he drives - the top of his back and head is nowhere near the seat. And if Mike Cross doesn't consider something an issue then chances are that nothing will be changed.

I'm 6ft5 as well, drove the 5LR today with the performance seats and I thought it was fine. I know the bit on the seat you mean, but I found it supported me more than being uncomfortable. But it's personal opinion, worked for me but could easily be wrong for someone else. Amazing car, going to go for the V6S Coupe.

The noisy exhaust on start-up is a mixed blessing, I had the same 'problem' on a Maserati Granturismo I used to own too.

The reason behind it is the valves in the exhaust work off the intake vacuum, created when the engine is running. As the vacuum in the system disappears as soon as the engine is switched off, when you start the engine up again, it takes a while for the vacuum to build up and close the valves. Hence why any car fitted with these vacuum operated exhaust valves is so noisy at startup.

Aston uses electronic exhaust valves, which cures this problem, but most other companies have moved over to vacuum operated ones as they are both cheaper and more reliable.

I ws looking at one again today. They are so gorgeous! The seat definately isn't right for me but I'm wondering if I could live with it. The dealer suggested a chiropractor! Maybe i need to learn to drive hunched forward! :-)

Great car in all respects. I did ask if i could buy some standards seats. That would fix it! Ebay?? ;-)

I saw an S I was keen on but with the standard seats , I asked the dealer if they could be swapped out to the performance was told emphatically NO factory fit only so not sure if they could be flipped the other way to suit you?

Wasn't that keen on it to be honest, it was just a bit too much. Felt like a race car with number plates, which I guess is fine and all, but not to live with. The only way you could have fun with it is by going a lot faster than the law would like you to, which is very easy to do. Didn't have much personality compared to the f-type either.

The m4 is probably a better car in every way (apart from looks and sound), but it misses the key thing you want, it's not nearly as much fun.
