RE: Jaguar unveils new coupe concept
Discussion
I think we should wait and see the production version before we post judgement on the looks. Especially one with more normal sized wheels and a better colour.
There has been talk about the XK replacement for what seems like an age now, so I thought there was no question about it. They are replacing it and bringing out the new one late 2005 early 2006.

Yet another concept car from Jag
Yet another car that won't make it IMHO.
Jag are so cashed strapped they have to keep on churning this out to create the halo effect to keep on flogging the existing range.
Remember the f-type... Err - where is that then?
J
Probably sharing space with the R-Coupe and the XK180.
And yes, the DB7 was based on the xjs floorplan.
I would have one of these..........If I really believed that it was well engineered. It won't be, every penny will be ripped out of it from quality of engineering to parts bin components. Jag really do have no money at all and instead of investing in a product that would lift them in reputation throughout Europe and America they are just producing the same old re-badged Fords.
It really is a shame as the lads at Jag want to produce a top toy, they just have there hands tied.

Lets not of course forget that AM used the Jaguar F-type platform when creating its DB7 in the early ninety's. So the two companies have been heavily intwined with their developments in recent years.
I thought the DB7 was based on the xjs platform?
It was.
Damn! Should read rest of posts first before I repeat others.
I like the big 21 inch alloys. I think they look really impressive. I also think it is a very elegant coupe, with very clean and simple lines.
All of the protoypes that I have seen in the past year have been silver. Maybe it is considered to be a safe, fairly neutral finish.

Aston Martin DBV8. Yes.
Jaguar F-Type. Yes.
This. No.
Then again, people didn't like the XJS or XK8 when they came out. Maybe the looks will grow on you.
At the moment however, the front overhang looks bigger than it probably is (due to those air-intake/indicator cutouts). The front valance is too shapeless. The front-lights resemble a Seat Arosa. The vent behint the front wheels is too MG. The wheels are too bling, the wing mirrors are too Mercedes, the rear lights are too Lexus (or Ford Probe), the rear bumper looks to golf club and the exhausts look as though the tips fell off. The rest looks like a knock off from Aston Martin.

What a HUUGE frontal overhang...
Actually, because of the curve of the nose on the Jag, the pictures make it look like it has a huge front overhang, when in fact it is no bigger than that of the new AMV8. Have a look on the Jag website (under Future cars) and you can see a full side-on view, and it looks a lot better.

Note to self - Purchase sports car before they all look this bad...
Disclaimer - I'm not complaining at Jaguar, more the politicians who make the pedestrian safety rules up.
Wheel position isnt a big issue with pedestrian impact as there are other solutions to reducing the affect of the tops of the suspension towers. And even if it was, we should be happy to help save lives by driving safer cars. I say this with confidence that stylists will find a new language that we will grow to like just as much as the current one. When front impact legislation was introduced, people moaned that it would make every car look like an early 80s Volvo, but it didnt and now people are complaining that they dont want to change the style necessitated by the last round of legislation. How ironic.

Still think it looks like a Hyundai coupe with added yank-ness.
Well done; guess where AM MD Dr Bez was before he arrived on your shores. Engineering director at Hyundai
Enough of the girly talk of style (unless off cause the long overhang is due to FWD!!!): Important issue is can they realy bring this aluminium baby in at 900kg??? That will make it a real Jaguar that even J Lyon would have been proud of!!

Where's the heritige, the DNA and all that other jaguarness gone?
If a bunch of graduates can produce the RD6 and a bunch of engineers knock out the XJ220 protype in the spare time, which bunch of muppets produced this - the typing pool could've done better with their mascara pencils and bog paper

Talk about a cold shower after that R coupé (which was sex on wheels).
It's said before but it really looks like a mix of cougar body, hyundai coupe slants, range rover/lincoln gills, XK8 roof.. they couldn't have made it looking more
Maybe this is what you get when you have a car like the R coupé cliniced by Americans and actually listen to what they have to say?
In that light, it will be prettier (than a Mercury Burble Sedàn), lighter (than a Ford Armoured Limo) and sportier (than a Lincoln Navigator Supersized) than anything else on the US market.
So it's a winner, as long as it doesn't end up over in good 'ol Europe.

I just find it very dull, especially the interior, more so if it to have less of the "bling" for production. Personally they have designed a big coupe and added dome Jag DNA. Better to take a leaf out of Lyons and Sayer's book, ie the E type was result of engineering (aerodynamics) that was refined by "styling" (industrial design in modern parlance), similar to the philosphy/history behind the original Range Rover, Citroen DS, 2CV, Mini etc.
