I was there when they unveiled the sucker.

It's truly horrendous.

The rear end actually is (almost) identical to the Mazda RX-8 concept car from 2001...

The one thing Jag is good at these days is firing their superstar employees...hopefully Ian Callum will be next.

Cheers.

I'm trying to be objective about this and as it's a traditional British marque I want to like it but if you block the Jaguar name with yout mouse it looks pretty anonymous and vaguely Ford Coupe of some description. If you said it was an updated Mustang you could almost believe it. Rich...

I kinda like it, think it will be okay when the finished product comes out.
But about this one: front grill is too high - too much empty space around it, the front edge of the door is too straight, side vent should be blended into the panel, rear view mirror is ugly, tailights just don't seem right. Like the interior though, especially the guages.

Not good enough.

Must try harder.

Not the aspirational drop-dead gorgeous car it should be.

Shades of Monaro/ Volvo C70/ Merc CLK in the styling.

Pretty poor effort IMO. Very heavy styling around the rear wheel arch. Clumsy and unresolved, with not enough tension in the lines.

Jaguar have done so many concept cars now that the public are bored with them , because they never make it into production.

If they make this one, but not some of the gorgeous other ones, it shows once and for all that Ford's managers at Jaguar really have'nt a clue.

If they build this car it will NOT be the saviour they are waiting for. Its too bland, and will date quickly.

The latest evolution of the current XK looks much better IMO.

Huh? RX8 Concept? It's nothing like it. A cougar (as mentioned before) yes, but not the Mazda.

I quite like it from the front. Not exactly Jag but nice anyway.

This may be an okay-looking car, but it's not a Jaguar.

Where are the lithe, graceful lines. This coupe simply looks large, bloated, and just plain heavy. I'm deeply disappointed with this. Jaguar styling does nothing to distinguish itself. What happened to the drama of the previous concepts.

Rest in Peace Jaguar.

Nope! Still not a Jaguar. Still sucks.

With those lights, all it needs is a squarer grille and you have a new model Volvo C70...

Problem is the rear wheel and the relationship with the rear 3 quarter window - the gap is much too wide and makes the car look heavy and plain.

Wow, I had no idea people would be so cross about this car.
I was at the show when it came out, and I thought it looked wonderful. The journalist sitting to my right however hated it, and he has already posted his remarks on this page too.
Yes, its not a quantum leap forward from the current XK8, but trust me, in the flesh, it is much more appealing. Plus, Jaguars have a history of evolving designs, very much like Porsche.
Compared to the new 911, this is much more of a rework.
Being fortunate enough to talk to Ian Callum at the launch, he told me the tail lights, the exhaust, the wheels and the front bumper will be different on the production model, and interior might be somewhat different too. That is why they called this the Aluminum Concept Coupe, not the XK8 concept.
He is a very talented designer and he knows what he is doing, so don't start mouthing off against him so quickly.
As for you convertible fans, that might be shown this year in Geneva, and yes this time the convertible top will be stowed under a hard cover (like the DB9 Volante) and it will be a soft top, not an SL-style hard-top convertible.
As for designs growing on you, I remember hating the XK8 when I first saw pictures of it, then I saw one in reality, and I started to drool. Most of those who don't like the new concept, will probably change their tune when they see one in the flesh.

I think the problem is that the new car is too derivative. It steals too many styling cues from other cars.

Its like a mix of Bentley Conti GT, a touch of DB9 and a bit of DB7, together with some Merc CLK and a mixture of other influences..

Consequently, it is'nt a Jaguar. And I truly believe it will date quickly.

Its just not brave enough.

Im still stuck on the ford cougar thing. If it looks like a cougar, it probably is a cougar - the usual ford v6 but with a jag badge. And double (or more) the price most likely.

I just thought of all the awful '5 mins to turn your cougar into an xkr' things.

Of all the derivative pieces of crap that have appeared of late this is by far the worst offender.

Just noticed the drilled pedals. What a bunch of ... ... ... (counts to ten) smurfs

The cancellation of F type just makes all car fans in the world feel disappointment with Jaguar.

If jaguar decided not to build this car, will anyone feel any sad?

I think Jaguar should stick with F-type concept and refine it. It's much clearner, more elegance and pure Jaguar blood.

Apart from the crap looking dark shading in the headlights and nasty color, I reckon its sex. Although I'd have to agree with Lanciachris's comparing the ford cougar with it. Intriguing...

What a HUUGE frontal overhang...

Actually, because of the curve of the nose on the Jag, the pictures make it look like it has a huge front overhang, when in fact it is no bigger than that of the new AMV8. Have a look on the Jag website (under Future cars) and you can see a full side-on view, and it looks a lot better.

If the front is not big, making it look big shows a granted lack of subtlety and taste.

It's high time designers took courses about older designs instead of continuously wandering around the same Eurobox culture-induced "fat four-wheeled suppository" theme. This "Jag" looks like a Seat Leon that has been squashed buy a lift.
