Hi I am new to the forum but have had Pistonheads book marked for a number of years.
I think the x300 is worthy of posting. I have only had it a week;it is fantastic. The sport switch is rather fun. It was christened 'Beast' by an admirer at the garden center today. A small point it seems a little twitchy at speed on the motorway.

Congratulation, you've acquired what is without a shadow of a doubt the greatest saloon car in the history of the motor industry (others may disagree, but they are entitled to be wrong occasionally, no one is perfect). An X300 is a good introduction to life as a Jaguar owner, be aware of NAJS (Need Another Jaguar Syndrome), I managed nearly 10 years with my X300 before I succumbed and had to add another Jaguar to the fold. When you say "twitchy on the motorway" I'm not sure what you mean. It should feel rock solid and track as straight as an arrow. Even on poor country roads an X300 should be really easy to keep on the straight and narrow, a few local roads around our way have LadyB8's E-Class hunting around, and her previous one more so, even my XKR needs a steady hand, while the X300 is unphased.

Thank you all so much for the kind comments. With reference to the 'twitchyness.' I have driven the same route a couple of times now and realize that it was me that was a little twitchy taking a long sweeping left hand bend in the damp with the c/c set at slightly above 70mph....
The tracking is out a little also, but otherwise it runs and drives like a dream.
Anyone know a quality upholsterer in wales that can fix the head lining?

I have indeed but the only reason that you put just 4 cylinders in a row is that you can't afford to do it properly and have them in rows of 6.I also prefer the interior of the X300.
For the XJR I might grant you there was an improvement

I had an XJ sport and I changed it for a wonderful XKR.
But my XJ sport was wonderful why oh why did I sell it it had 1 owner 45k in seafrost.
