I have just noticed a high pitched whine which is probably a turbo. It comes in at about 1500 rpm through to 2000 ish. It is not noticeable at any other revs. Its been there for about 2 months now and doesn't appear to be getting any worse. The volume is such that I can live with it but I wouldn't want it to get any worse. Just had both EGR valves replaced so another bill would not be welcome.
The strange thing is that the noise is more noticeable from inside the car and can hardly be heard from outside or with head under bonnet or with window open. You can hear it best when at low revs and then accelerate and lift off. You hear a pitch increase and decrease as the turbo speed picks up then drops. At a constant 70mph on a smooth road I can just hear it. (No one else can) There is no loss of performance. My indy says it is not likely to be a leak or split hose or it would be really noisy. I can't be positive about this but I think it started around the time the EGR valves were changed. Anyone got any clues?
