Just stumbled onto this thread.

Last year I had the opportunity to spend the best part of a couple of weeks a couple of V6S convertibles (around the Swiss Alps) and absolutely fell in love with the car.
I'm sure there are many of us out there waiting for the price just to drop into the slightly more sensible price bracket, I've been keeping an eye on the used market for the last year now and prices of early car seems to have levelled a little bit although I'm sure it will continue to drop.

I'm sitting here patiently waiting for the prices to go below £40k which I'm assuming they will do by the end of this year.
Reckon you'll be lucky this year. The prices of the cheapest lightly spec'd standard ones are still £46k let alone the S versions at which there are just a couple under £50k. I really can't see the v6S dropping 10k in 5 months

Appreciate this is an old thread, but I've been looking at a 2014 v6 coupe for £45k and wondering what this is likely to worth in two years time. It has some extras such as pan roof, black pack, 19inch wheels, though I don't suspect that to drastically increase the value once it's 4 years old.

Sounds like a nice spec. There aren't many early coupes available yet but from looking for a few weeks they seem to hold their value better than the convertible. A jag dealer offered me a 5.0 v8 S for £45k with only 6k miles. It was £86k new 3 years ago.

Up until a few weeks ago, I was going to buy a XKR 5.0 convertible, around 4 years old. Looking a dealer prices for those, & also dealer prices for a 2 year old F Type V8S, there is about £15-£20K difference. For argument sake, I'll assume that there is around the same difference for trade prices as well. The gap will continue to narrow, until people realise how overpriced used XKRs currently are, & they will take a big correction.

I'm going to hold fire & try to pick up a 2013 F Type for around £45K privately in the early part of this winter. I think there is a sweet spot for used F Types where there is a lot of people wanting them in the more 'affordable' £30-£45K zone, & that they will stick in that zone until they get to at least 5 years old.

I attribute this high initial depreciation on the F Type to them being £15K overpriced when new, & market forces are reflecting this

I've been looking for a nice late low mileage XKR and they are very rare. I'd pay strong money for one. I have a 2007 XKR but would like a newer one.

I owned an F Type for 12 months and sold it. Completely different car and market to the XKR.

I've spoken to a few dealers and Jag enthusiasts who all confirmed that nice XKRs are hard to find and are demanding top money.

My view is that the XKRs will hold value well and remain being sought after. They're lovely.

So, it's been a few more months now, what are people's thoughts on current prices?

Is now a good time to buy a used V6 S? Or should I wait until the facelift later this year?

Facelift will affect price unfortunately but then what price do you put on a few months of fun?

If you want one, go for one. It is going to drop regardless, these wont stop falling any time soon so if you keep on waiting you'll miss another season in one.

I had a black 2014 V8S F Type recently and the reason for my selling was - you guessed it - depreciation. I did a video review a while ago, (bit DIY) what an epic car !

I since bought a Cayman S hoping it will hold its value.

facelift will have minimal impact

and selling a car due to depreciation only to buy anther in a similar class is fools logic ...

Buy a 3yr old F-TYPE and the depreciation will be very kind to you

and the smiles per mile will beat any other car

Fully agree with this. Bought my R half a year ago and that was already heavily depreciated (almost half of MSRP) here in Germany. So far, prices have not dropped below that mark over here. The initial depreciation is rough on all high-performance cars. Look at the new R8. You can already get some early ones (just a couple of months old really) around 130k here in DE - these had an MSRP of 200k!

The thing with these cars is: you've got to pay to play - either depreciation or maintenance. My 997 ate 15k in maintenance over 3 years, though it did not depreciate (in fact, sold it for more than I paid for it). I'm sure the F-Type will lose some value - I'm not sure how long I'm keeping it, but you can't really put a price on fun and memories you make. So far, the car has been immensely more fun than any other vehicle I've driven (though I do miss the manual and that will be the only reason for me to part with it when I eventually say my farewells), particularly more enjoyable to me than my old 997 and any 991.

A 981 Cayman S was also in contention for me, but after 3 years of trouble with my OPC I just had enough and needed a "Porsche break". The 981S is a pretty good value proposition, particularly as the last six cylinder car. These cars are already fairly cheap (much cheaper than an FTR) and will depreciate more favorably. Still, personally, trading a 997 for a 981S didn't make any sense for me (not any faster, not really much more fun, IMO worse looking). But you can't really go wrong with either.

The only car I'd trade my F-Type R for at this point would be more expensive cars that are sure to depreciate a lot more in the next few years, namely the aforementioned new R8 or a 570S (or the also aforementioned GT3, should it actually come with a manual this year).

Unlike the other marques jag get simplistic brutal fun just right. My next venture is looking like a move into a v8s or back to corvettes with the 650bhp z06

Are the prices of the V8s likely to fall to around £35k by this time next year?
