Hi Folks
Im looking at a 1977 4.2 XJC and a 1965 3.4 S type at the weekend, I know they are maybe chalk and cheese, but any advice would be welcome, placing of engine and chassis numbers etc.
Is there a site where I can check history, date of reg etc based on the chassis numbers ?
any help and words of encouragement or warning would be welcome
Cheers
Barrie
oh by the way where is the O/D switch on the S type, the seller is not sure whether it has it or not, I assume its dash mounted rather than gearstick mounted

Can't help I'm afraid, but mid-eighties I briefly owned an XJC 4.2 - a non-runner.
I used to love just sitting in it. hehe

Sold it for pennies as the block was split. The friend who bought and fixed it sold it for a decent sum.
I'd love to get one now. cool

You obviously like them both enough to have a look so just buy the best possible car rather than being tied to one model.

I'd be happy with either but XJ coupes are definitely on the up at the moment.

If memory serves me correctly the S type overdrive switch is a stalk on the steering column. Strange that the owner doesn't know where it is.
