Hi Folks,

I'm fairly new to Jaguars, favouring plastic British lightweights as a hobby. Just lately I've been lucky enough to find myself employed by a historic Jaguar road and racing specialist, and am keen to learn more about the cars I'm working on.

As an engineer, my interests lean towards the technical side of things, so can you recommend any literature that I could read to learn more about in period modifications that make a road car into a racer etc? Similarly, there must be information about specific Jaguar racing cars that are well documented. I've come from aviation, so moving into a different career path, I need your knowledge!

The cars I will be working on range from the C Type, through E Type, Mk1 and 2, XJC and XJS.

I hope you can help.

Many thanks,
Kurt

OK A quick book list might include

Andrew Whytes' Jaguar Sport racing & work's competition cars, sounds like you will need both volumes
Norman Dewis' biography "Norman Dewis of Jaguar developing the legend"

If you're going to look at XKs then both the A D Clausager books and Philip Porters Original Jaguar XK (there is rather more detail in the 3rd edition than the 2nd edition).

I've not got around to reading it yet but there is also a history of the Eurrie Ecosse team.

There are so many books on Jaguar that it's difficult to know which to recommend. "Powered by Jaguar" gives a good insight into all the racing cars that used Jaguar engines.

I'm not so sure which books give much specific technical detail on the racing models.

For the XK120 to XK150 the books from Bernard Viart "Jaguar XK150/140/120 explored" are far and away the most detailed and head and shoulders above the rest.

Then there's Paul Skilleters "Jaguar Sports Cars" which is quite detailed and comprehensive.

You could also try calling up the technical experts in the JDC or JEC and ask them for recommendations.
