Hi all

I am asking this on behalf of my brother, who owns an X-Type 3.0 and has been suffering a problem with it intermittantly stalling at idle.

It has started to allow the revs to drop and often stall when at idle in traffic etc (though by no means all the time - which makes it harder to fault find). You can't really stop it doing this, but once it dies you can leave it a few seconds and it will restart quite happily and off it goes. Only once has it refused to get going straight away.

It shows no engine warning lights, and it has no faults active or historic when a code reader is put on it.

My current (and only) thought is a dodgy fuel pump, but then it is surprising that it will restart so quickly after a freak out! I believe the previous owner fitted a new MAF and o2 sensors - but then I would expect a fault with these to throw up an error code...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have a good look about the vacuum tubing under the main intake pipes. It's not a rampant issue but it's not unheard of for the plastic tubing to get brittle with heat and crack on the AJ-V6. The air leaks can cause stalling (I've had it on one of mine a few years ago).

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking about getting a Bluetooth OBD monitor to track fuel pressures when the problems happen. Might prove that one way or another...

I'll have to check the vac tubes and see what I can see.
