Done a gearbox oil change in a XJ8 V8 3.2 but no drive.

Posting on behalf of my son. He has changed the box for a known good working box and he believes he has followed the correct procedure in refilling it with oil but there is no drive and the gearbox light is on.

Any ideas before he throws in the towel. The car is a 2000 XJ8 Sport 3.2 V8.
