Hi All,

Was looking through some RS4's for sale, I still like to dream! I saw a B7 version with 229k mileage on it. I know modern engines can go forever if look after properly. Do you think this would be the same or a money pit?

Hold in mind that the best B7 RS4 is an expensive car to maintain; at 220k wear is going to become a fairly major issue.

Even if it was very cheap it could easily give you a 5k bill straight away just to make the suspension and brakes good.

I can imagine how expensive they are to run. I have never seen a B7 RS4 for that price but tbh if it was my money I would rather spend the extra on a lower mileage one. What mileage do you reckon they are good for?

I think that particular vehicle is extremely expensive for the mileage. It should be circa 8-9k imo.

If that is your budget, you might be better of purchasing a Cat registered vehicle as the majority of them have had their seats stolen.

I purchased an Avant recently for a few K more and that had 1/3 of the mileage.

I don't think I'd necessarily not buy it because of the mileage however I'd want to make sure the servicing is tippedy-top. I'd also set aside a fund to get it into a reputable specialist ASAP for them to give it a proper once over.

This popped up on RS246 the other day. Someone quite rightly pointed out that it has probably cost more to fuel that mileage than the original bill of sale.

As mentioned above, I'd sooner look at Cat D examples before opting for one with mileage like that.

No issues with the engines really.
Just have a carbon clean done. But buying a 220k mileage one wouldn't bother me. As long as the price was right.

Certainly a better bet than a Cat D, and on a £15k car, cat D can be quite a lot of damage.

How much less typically would a cat D RS4 missing just the seats sell for ?

Probably 12kish. There was one up for £11200 yesterday with lowish miles.

These cars get written off if the seats get stolen.

I honestly don't know why.
From new with new glass and labour etc yes it's £7k
The going rate is about £2000.
Would insurance refuse to settle out on a set of used seats...????

If it's mostly motorway miles (and it probably is) then that's not a massive deal.

I would sooner take a 1 year old car that's done 100K miles than a 10 year old car that's done 1K miles. Cars can still deteriorate through lack of use. An engine that's been thraped up and down motorways and kept all the acidic contaminants boiled off is a much better prospect than one that's just been to Tesco and back a few times a week.

Thats a very good point, you would need a mortgage for that amount of fuel!

It would be an interesting purchase for someone to just keep piling on the miles and see how far it could go.
That said, I find it strange choice to cover that amount of motorway miles.
As much as I love taking my car on an extended trip, I wouldn't want to drive it for vast mileage on a motorway. "Different folks...." and all, but it's kind of missing point if you're sitting in 6th most of the time drivingbiggrin

I digress.....Would I buy it? Assuming I had the budget for potentially huge bills and it has a very thorough full service history with right kind of garages, then (for the right price) I'd be a "Yes" smile

...but I can't help thinking that right price is south of 10k.

Regardless of where those miles are done that car will have a lot more wear in anything that conceivably can wear than a car that really isn't a lot more money. They've a reasonably complicated suspension setup with a lot of points to introduce play and vagueness; if they're all tired it isn't going to feel anything like an RS4 should. After you've overhauled everything that feels its age you still own a car that's been to the moon.

Do you have a link - if its a dark blue car, then I know it well and it is well worth the money...

It has been maintained to an unbelievably high standard and has some very tasty additional extras....

You might, if the ebay seller comes round to your postal address to 'retrieve' them for another sale a month down the line....

I'd probably opt for some 'comfort' seats to avoid a repeat occurrence

Bloke near me leaves his B7 RS4 saloon outside his house year round - I'm amazed it still has its seats. Some f*%kwits relieved my S8 of its wing mirrors in the same area a few years ago, so mine stays garaged. Mirrors replacement was near £3k with associated damage sorted!

Really...??
Lol maybe people worry too much.

I bought my seats off Ebay. I paid £1700 collected. Outside of Ebay (best for us both). If you are at all worried just arrange a payment on collection?

I travelled up there. The guy who I bought them from appeared dodgy AF. Ethnic minority. Proper sh*thole area. Somewhere in Blackburn. Not going to lie I was nervous having £1700 in cash with me, me and my mate kept doors locked etc -

Got there at 11pm on a Friday night (we drove up from Newbury) The guy looked about 12. Had an S3. (which my seats are out of). Said he wanted to free up some money so put standard S3 seats in and sold the buckets.

I speak to him still from time to time on IG. Once you got talking to him he's actually just a car guy. Has a house on a mortgage, now he has an E92 M3, he bought his younger bro a e90 convertible, he's had Astons etc.
no idea what he does (think it's something in IT and he also runs a car hire thing I think in his spare time??) but fair play to the guy.

3 years later they haven't been stolen.
