Long distance cruising in my XKR will give 25MPG, get it out of the garage and pop into town and back won't hit 10. Play time? 10. Steady motorway cruise and you might get 28, I've seen it a few times. Play time? 10 if you're lucky, I assume that there is a big fuel pump in there somewhere as well as the big air pump.

Mike,

The V8 is the right choice - no regrets smile

I haven't driven the AWD version yet but have owned a couple of AWD performance cars (911 Turbo & GTR) and they can feel a little sterile at times due to the massive grip.

I really liked the rear wheel drive of the V8S, it reminded me of my Cerbera days but with the added benefit of traction control when needed. Lots of fun and controllable.

It depends what driving experience you want, but I wouldn't get too hung up on the AWD version.
Phil I've had a pre-cat Griff, two new Tuscans (in 2000 and 2001), a Grif 500 and a Tuscan S. Oh and a 560bhp/tonne Caterham so I appreciate the tail happy character smile

Heart says V8R but head says V6S....

....aaahhh....a fellow Cerbera owner.....still got mine when I need a V8 blast....that`s the reason I didn`t buy the V8 F-Type.....couldn`t bring myself to sell the Cerb...and I`m glad I didn`t.

Mike....I should have read your profile...didn`t realise you were a TVR owner . Your going to find the F-Type a little sterile after driving TVR`s and Caterhams.....fantastic car though in its own way.

I had two 4.5's both decatted and mapped to around 400BHP by Joolz in Sheffield. The last one was a 2003. I found the V8S to be the modern equivalent in terms of performance, exhaust sound (especially the overrun), with modern 'safety' features that didn't intrude on the driving experience. I still miss the Cerb but I miss the V8s more wink

In which case you KNOW you will be disappointed with the V6! smile

so the dilemma is do I try and find a one year old V6S Coupe with all these extras on for sub-£60K (which I think is highly unlikely to exist) or do I buy a 2 year old V8R Coupe with all the bits on?

I think the slower one is probably better for you Mike.

I don't want the V6S I want the full fat new V8R Mrs E and I were drooling over in the showroom yesterday....but that's £94K which is V12 Vantage territory!!

My V8Rwill easily pull 32mpg on a long motorway cruise at 77mph

Just back from a 1,600 mile eurotour and it averaged 23mpg

If the choice is between a 1 year old V6S or a two year old V8R and you want a V8R and you wish to minimise the depreciation factor surely it's a no brainer?

I don't understand ?...surely the whole point of driving a V8R is to exploit its potential....77 mph....that can be done in a 2.0 diesel Mondeo!

I have just taken delivery of a V6S. Before I picked it up the dealer lent me a V8 for a couple of days. While Iike the look of the quad exhaust on the V8 it felt a bit front end heavy. The V6 isn't that much slower and it drives better ( imho of course) so I am very happy with my choice. I also still have my TVR Tuscan and to think that the price difference between the V8 and the V6 would be about the worth of the TVR, for the sake of reaching 60mph in just over half a second quicker and 15mph faster it just wasn't worth it.

The financial comparison is no doubt true if buying new (typical list being £65K V6S Coupe and £90K V8R) but when you're looking at £55K for a 1 year old V6S or £60K for a two year old V8R then the purchase price difference is less of a driver?

If I could find a 1 year old V6S that looked like the V8R in the pictures above then I'd be happy to buy that, but I can't see anyone would have specced all the extra bits on a V6S as it would have taken it up to £75K+ new?

It,s true what you say if you are buying used. I speced mine up to 75k but got a 6.5k discount so I got what I wanted for the price I wanted to pay.

Checkout how many pre - owned V8R,s are for sale then compare how many V6S,s are for sale, that should tell you a story.

You mean there's a lot of pre-owned V8Rs around as they're difficult to shift?

Must say the depreciation on the V8R in the first two years is much worse than the V6R (if looking at dealer prices)

I've got a F-type R AWD as a courtesy car and it only does around 10mpg, that may have something to do with the spectacular exhauset sound. cloud9
10mpg seriously?!?

Assume this is around town as the official combine cycle is stated as 25mpg?
Well i've done a couple of runs today from Huntingdon to Colchester and back and averaged 21.8mpg going and 23.1mpg upon return (it was snowing around Cambridge so i did slow down a bit)

Hooning around the local roads. wink. driving

Enjoying it so much we think this may well be the next ChevyKevv purchase when I've had fun in the Vantage.
I'll be following prices carefully over the next year or two.

25mpg.....V8R......not a feckin chance.......rofl......as I said I get 22mpg out of my V6S and that`s driving it normally...now if I nail it that`s a different story......driving
V8 is as good if not a little better than the V6 in real world MPG due to the low end torque. V6 down changes a lot even when not being aggressive and the V8 doesn't.
