I take it you have never driven on a motorway before?
Probably a few points as well, strange post.

The open diff of the base V6 makes for an "engaging" driving experience. If you've owned TVRs, I think you'll like it.

Plus: the electrics work...

I bought my first TVR in 1996, then two new Tuscans in the early 2000's then two more this decade, I'm done with them now and want something I can jump in and go, has some style and performance, feels a bit special and I can drive through the Alps and into Italy with. So the F-type or a vantage would seem to fit the bill smile

Surely an open diff isn't engaging, saying all the above I still want something I can slide out of corners (or donut lol)

I bought new just to take advantage of the better pcp deal.

Got a basic 340 (fast enough) spec'd to 62k for 53.5.

In ha fox Nottingham, they have the same car with powered tailgate, cyclones and 700w system for sale now at 67k. Who the feck is gonna pay that when ha can spec a new s for 62k.

HA Fox Nottingham told me to expect 10% off list if I buy new from them.

10%???

I'd be wanting it down 20% at that price before I started listening.

I don't care if the alloys are a 4k extra, the tailgate is powered etc. they won't shift that car for anything more than 57k

So you know you're not allowed to go faster than 70mph not matter what car you're in.

Your quite correct...and in the 22 years that I have been driving a company car 40k miles per year throughout the UK I don't believe that I have ever seen anyone drive over 70 mph....ever!
If your telling me that a V8R owner is not going to exceed the speed limit...ever....well I can honestly say that I don't quite believe you.

I'm sorry you're inflicked with a diesel Mondeo, my thoughts are with you. wink

You commented on a post about a long motorway run at 77mph being too slow for a F-Type-R, i'm sure given the chance we may "open them up a bit" but if we want to keep our licences it's probably best to stick to under 80mph on a long run.

Ok told the dealer to find us a 2 year old V8R or a one year old V6S that looks like an R biggrin

So the concensus seems to be that on a long motorway run the V8R consumption won't be much more than the V6S but around town or thrashing it will result in significantly worse consumption than the V6S. No surprise I guess given its a supercharged 5.0L V8 pushing out 550BHP.....

So any pointers for good insurance companies?

don't be ridiculous. A 2.0 diesel ford focus will do 120mph on the motorway - whats the point

The F-TYPE gets driven properly OFF the motorway ! ;o)

I know! I'm on your side on this! I have had big v8s for the last 20 years. I'd rather be doing 70mph in one than in any Mondeo (though we have a Volvo that does 800000mpg, just takes 80 years to get to 60).

I've just stepped down into a 5.0xkr from a 7.0 z06. The corvette had a similar sized tank but I could easily get between 4 and 500 on a very good run so I am finding the jag a little thirsty in comparison. I don't think the sound helps much, its too addictive!

If I was going for an F-type though, it would be the v6s I feel.

OP,

Would you consider a V8S? It's got the V8 but slightly detuned so ends up with HP between a V6S and a V8R. Sounds better than the V6 faster than V6, not quite as quick as V8R but still plenty quick for pretty much anybody!

If you're buying and keeping short term, why not buy a car which has had the bulk of its depreciation already? Such as this V8S convertible up for 46k and will come with 2 years Jaguar warranty? Should definitely tied you over until you get an M2, and I would have thought you'd lose less than half what you would on a new one! (Please bonus of keeping the rest of your budget in the bank)
