hi i am new to this forum and i am in desperate need of help. i have a problem with my jaguar xf. it handles well when turning left at all reasonable speeds but the problem is when i am turn right. it feels like its gonna skip and even driving straight i feel there is less grip on the left side of the car. theres a popping sound like the wheel slipping and straightening up when i have a full lock to the right.there is also the occational knock all coming fron left passenger side notably front. the car at the moment feels so unsafe to drive. i have been to several mechanics who told me theres nothing wrong with the car and its doing my head now. its worse when its wet then i have next to no grip to the left side of the car. when steering right the car fees like its on ice.when i go over a bump the car shakes side to side steering wheel also vibrates. i have had 5 wheel alignments and 3 wheel balances. steering rack ends changed as well. last time i jacked car up the left rear wheel side stayed up even though i took jack and stands off. its not a very good write up but i will really really appreciate any help cus i am loosing my head. thanx phil

Phil,

You may get more info/advice on something like Jaginfo which has a lot of XF expert contributors.

Well...

1. Does it have the same tyres (brand and size) on each side?
2. What was checked on the alignment - all four wheels or just the front? If the rear wheels aren't aligned with the fronts it will go better round corners in one direction compared to the other.
3. The wheel sticking suggests bent or broken suspension, while the rest of it suggests suspension bushes that are knackered. If points 1 and 2 are as they should be, it's time to try a Jaguar specialist or dealership.

I have a 2010 XF and have a similar problem although, from the sounds of it, not as bad as yours - every time I turn slowly on full right lock it's as if the front tyres skip.

Everything has been checked, by both main dealer and indie, and all mechanics are in order. The only thing it can be put down to are the tyres. I have P Zeros all round and from reading the forums these don't seem to be the best fit for the car.

As has been said, take a look at the Jag forums as the problem does, to varying degrees, seem to be fairly common. If you've had everything else looked at it may just be something as simple as the tyres....?

Thanx guys for the reply I have pirelli p zeros all round and the same sizes and have been to quickfit and a local allignment place to get the wheels checked and was no bent rims and all alignments have been 4 wheel total alignment with the Hunter alignment equipment. But the last alignment my camber was out not by much -1.11 on front left. I have also been to jag dealer last Friday and everything checked out bushes and sorts so now I don't know maybe time to change the pirellis but only had them 3000miles ago . I have had bent rims in the past but we're professionally repaired maybe I broke something else or bent something else. But will jag miss a bent suspension part? Is it difficult to diagnose a bent part? All mechanics around me think it's in my head but that day when I nearly run into the wall while accelerating round the bend it wasn't in my head. Thanx again for ur inputs guys well appreciated

Hi,

I had the same problem on my Xfr, spent more time in the dealer than on the road, even ended up back at the factory, was constantly told it was OK, tried oem pirelli, oem Dunlop etc, all to no avail, went round the house for months....

Finally jag gave in and gave me 3k toward a new jag, I bought an Xj Supersport.....guess what...it's exactly the same!

Same front suspension on them both, reported it to the dealer (Stratstone Milton Keynes) who didn't give a stuff, very poor customer service and always felt like once they had your money your now a second class citizen. In the end even jag said 'thats just the way they are'......

I test drove a few audis, mercs and bmw's but just could bring myself to do it, even though the steering was great on those cars it just wasn't a jag...

My theory is its a worn bush somewhere in the complex front system, they do seem to get worse with miles, driven lots of new jags that barely do it, my xj now has 50k miles on it and it's pretty bad, worse than when it was new...

Suggest you take it to someone who knows what they are doing, Dealers dont have a clue.

Dont know where you are based but I use Tom Lenthall http://www.tomlenthall.co.uk/ - theres nothing he doesnt know about Jags, he rebuilt the rear suspension on my XJ and did a fantastic job.

I have also heard very good things about the jag specialists in Doncaster although never used them myself http://www.thejagspecialist.com/index.php/contact

One thing to be aware of with Hunter machines, they will only set the suspension to factory settings. You need to find someone who actually knows about suspension and can set it up the way it should be which wont be to factory spec. I can recommend Tony at wheels in motion in chesham. People travel from all over the UK to have him do their setup. He's transformed the handling on a few cars for me in the past using his own settings http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/wheels-alignment....

Phil, All

Would really love to know what became of this issue, and was the cause of the problem uncovered.

I have a 2016 jaguar xf and it has the exact same problem described here .... a jut forward/left when you do a full hard steer to the right.

Cheers
