Ok so just brought a 1998 XJR and want to have a tinker with the power!

small top pulley 6%

or will I wish I had done the smaller top 10% pulley?

or is it better to just do the bottom pulley?

doing the top 10% pulley is aggravation due to having to send the snout away for mods, but is it worth it?

I have ordered an x pipe and plan to do away with the first exhaust box and remove the middle boxes and replace with just the same size pipe for now. I want to here the V8! just having the rear boxes should be ok?

Did my XKR last year. Did the 10% pulley upgrade although to be fair it doesn't make the car go 10% faster, just a bit nippier across the range.

No need to wait for your snout to be upgraded, do it on an exchange basis, get £100 refund when you send your old one back in.

Main issue I had was that the belt on my car was too long to grip the new pulley , I had to go and buy a 'standard' belt, thankfully it was a few centimetres shorter and gripped the pulley fine.

I went the other way with the XKR and put back original rear cans as the straight throughs that were fitted sounded awful and droney at any speed above carpak pose. It would be nice to know what system could be fitted to make a proper V8 rumble across the rev range so let us knwo what you think when you've had your XJR done.

Yes The exchange snout maybe the route I take but I may even keep my own snout for the sake of £100 I think its worth keeping. I plan to do the exhaust in stages first the front box, then the middle boxes.

I think too get the best of both you have to have a system that bypasses some of the silencers like on Astons, Lamborghini etc were they have a vacuum based by pass valve on the exhaust system

Is there an instruction tutorial online on how to change the snout?
Does the snout have a gasket? and I pray this can be done without having to remove the complete supercharger!
last can anyone recommend what size belt to use?

many thanks

I didn't find one directly, I found a thread that had all the required jag workshop bulletins listed in order, it was about 7 or them IIRC.

And yes the supercharger has to come off. Which means the front water pipe has to come off, and the inlet throttle elbow, the throttle housing, the egr, and the air intake, and a few other bits and pieces.

The first time I did it it took me about 20 hours. The second time I got it down to 10, the third , about 5! smile

Nothing in the list of things to do requires anything special, but some of the bolts are 'really' awkward to get to so need a good selection of spanners and sockets sets to get into the little spaces, oh and hands like a child. And re-fitting that inlet elbow seems almost impossible to achieve the first time, fecking swore at that for a few hours until I sussed it.

The belt is a bit hit and miss because the original supercharger pulleys were upgraded at some point, so when a car needed 1 pulley fixed there was a 'kit' to replace them all and the belt. So what is on your car and how it will fit with the new pulley is a bit suck and see. Luckily for me I fitted my 10% pulley and noticed the belt was not tight enough, the belt on my car was NOT a standard belt! So I ordered a 'standard' belt up and was able to wait 3 days for it to arrive. It fitted perfectly.

Wow! thanks not looking forward to this! I thought buying the snout with the pulley fitted would save a lot of hassle! ouch!
so do I need any gaskets? or is it fitted with a sealant?

many thanks
