morning
seriously thinking about one of these. would appreciate any advice on purchase / ownership. aware that rust can be an issue. anything else to look out for?
also, is the v12 experience significantly different over the v8? i have seen a few comments suggesting the 6.0 is the v12 to go for (over the 5.3)
also, consensus seems to be go as late in production run as possible?
any advice greatly appreciated.
thanks

The xjs came as a straight six (3.6, 4.0) or a V12 (5.3, 6.0).

The 6.0 was only produced from 92/93 (I think) and all these cars are facelifted and had better rust protection. Rust, however, is the greatest enemy on any XJS, so you need to have it properly inspected. Even a nice looking car can hide a load of unseen rot.

Having said all of that, a good one is a brilliant car with lots of character, exclusivity and charm.

Prices are on the way up, so if you can source a decent 6.0 right now at a reasonable price, you may well have depreciation proof motoring for years to come.

I had a late 6.0, and would buy another. Can't say better than that.

good to hear you would have another one.
6.0 is the one I have in mind. not many solid useable examples around. seem to either be very low miles 'investments' or tatty / missing history cars. very little in between

I have had a 3.6 a 4.0 a 5.3 and a 6.0 they are all wonderful and the 3.6 with a manual box is a great car.
But my favourite without any doubt was my 93 XJS 6.0l. I just loved hearing it turnover its an event everytime you start it.
I have an XKR now which is also wonderful but I regret the day I let my XJS go.
