Hi,

I am being asked for £400 for a genuine front caliper. Does anyone know any non oem parts or have experience of reconditioned? Also any recommendations on front discs and pads Jag parts are £200.

Thanks,

James

Standard XJR brakes or do you have the R1 Brembo upgrade?

You don't say what year etc. Going by the 305mm discs it's a x308 xjr. If it's not brembo all the xj8 calipers were the same. So any xj8 one will fit, you may have problems with a factor exchange as xk8 and xj8 had different pipe orentitation ( sp )

SOME XKR AND XJR were fitted with 325mm front discs which required a different caliper carrier but used the same caliper.

You are probably being quoted incorrectly for either a 325mm caliper or a Brembo.

In short order a caliper for a XJ8.

Hope that makes sense.

Sorry should have been clearer. It's an x308 but earlier vin so 305mm discs. So what SNG said is the original Jaguar part also includes at £470 but the cheaper £108 is reconditioned and just the piston assembly. Has anyone experience of this?

Have you spoken to them to confirm it's just the piston ?

I doubt they are selling just the piston but happy to be corrected. If so a piston and seal kit comes to just under £200, takes about 5 mind to strip and rebuild a caliper if you have an airline.

E bay ?

I'd be replacing front flexible hoses as well.

Pads and discs from reputable jag spares supplier.

Discs and pads £200 from Jaguar direct. Not a great deal of money.

Wonder if I am looking in wrong place. Checked this site last night and couldn't find any calipers. Good deal with 30% off this weekend. Yes agree will buy Jag discs and pads

I have found the caliper on Euro Car parts by selecting model rather than reg. There are two offside front at £102 and £108. The only difference seems to be cast numbers and cast reference which I amnot even sure what they are?

David Manners checked by vin and definitely one of the last with 305 mm discs. Pagid discs and pads look a good buy on Euro Carparts

Digging into my archive I used www.carparts-direct.co.uk

They did an exchange deal on my caliper and its been fine for several years now.
They were based in Derby, 01332 290833.

I dont know if they are still trading, but it may help.

I've used Brakes International a number of times over the years and they have always supplied calipers which are as good as new. Fully refurbished from them means new everything apart from the body and it's finished like a new caliper. Fantastic value.
