In my quest to find a new car circa £3k these have come up, tick a lot of boxes for me. Sorry not too sure on model numbers, but it seems I can get into one of these for around £3.5k and 120k on the clock. What are the major issues to look out for? Do they have reliable gearboxes for example?

No expertise on these but paint problems, check all over body for evidence of bubbling and corrosion, random electrical faults often due to poor earthing, occasional air suspension compressor failure, suspension bush wear. Gearboxes require semi regular oil changes that aren't in schedule. Some minor trim very flimsy. Wheel and/or propshaft balance issues on every example I've driven.

Very unusual ride quality compared with earlier conventional steel sprung cars IME. Have a long test drive over bumpy roads. Reported as generally pretty reliable, earlier V8 engine issues don't apply to the V6 3.0 or bigger V8s.

Light, economical and quick for size. Handle well. Way too big for average UK parking spaces and garages.

Noticed your thread on the Audi forum so not sure if your still looking at the Jag.

I payed double the price for the Jag you're after, but with 67k.

I can't give you huge advise because I'm only a recent owner of a Jag XJ6 (X350) 54 plate (8 months only) It's my first Jag and first Luxury type of car,but so far I absolutely love it. (My Blog is fully up to date)

At the time my car searches included BMW 7&5 series,Merc S&E class,Lexus IS250 and Volvo S80 all Auto and all petrol.
I never got to test drive any of the above because the looks of the Jag kept winning me over. I did do my research on all of the above cars and the only alarm bells ringing as far as I could tell on the Jag was if the Air suspension fails.
There's also many comments of "computer warning messages" error's showing, but this applies to all of them so it's a case of if you're lucky or not.
On the test drive of my car I had the "park brake warning light" being displayed and was told they would fix it. They did do, they fitted a new cable and I've had no problem since.
I've enjoyed every single mile, not used daily and mostly short local trips and get 25 mpg, OBC is over reading by 2mpg.
If you want to ask anything else I'll try and help where I can..
