Anyone fitted an R grille badge to the front grille of their XK.

I know these R badges are bolted on. So will I need to remove the front bumper or can you get access from underneath?

You mean an X150 (later 4.2 or 5.0) XK? No chance, bumper has to come off I'm afraid.

You could try just getting one of the self-adhesive ones that are used on the tailgate and stick that on. I did something similar on a different car, stuck pretty well.

I thought that might be the case. Was hoping to find a hole in the headlamp panel that might give some access with a long socket barmad

Bumper off isn't an impossible job, just a bit of a faff. I had to take mine off to change the front grilles, just needs a little time and another pair of hands. You have to undo a bunch of screws in the wheel arches and some on the undertray, remove both headlamp clusters and disconnect some cables for the front parking sensors (if fitted) and something else housed behind the front bumper. This all necessitates lifting the whole front end of the car.

Refitting is the reverse of removal, as they say.

Sounds like a bit of double sided tape then. smile

Well as above, the R badges for the tailgate come with adhesive backing already applied, just peel off the covering paper and stick it on. They're also cheaper than the bolt-on item for the front, just get yourself one of the stick-on ones, clean the grille with a panel wipe and apply the badge.

Had a go today to fit the front R grille badge without removing the bumper cover.

Here's how I did it.

This is the badge I decided to use. Bought from ebay, its has two threaded bars that screw into the back of the badge. I painted the two large washers black so they didn't show behind the chrome grille.

Remove 6 x10mm bolts and three push in guide clips.

Pull the top of the bumper cover up and towards you. There's just enough room to get your hand to the back of the front grille.

Align the badge and tighten the two nuts.

Job done.

Top tip: Be careful not to drop anything whilst fitting. It will drop down to the bottom of the bumper cover and is hard to retrieve. I squeezed a cloth behind the grille and bumper to catch anything if dropped.
