Bit of an ebay punt. Very nice car apart from the corrosion on the sills ( cills?).

Any experience in having these replaced. I'm in Hertfordshire UK but am happy to travel.

Prices and recommendations please. I don't really want to break this car. It drove the 290 miles home faultlessly and returned 32mpg on the way back !

Some people will say it's beyond economic repair but I really like these.

You can get weld on Sills to repair, depends on how bad yours are.

A decent local garage with welding skills should be able to fit them.

Here's a thread on it: http://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=73741

and here is a link to the parts mentioned:

My R needed both outer sills plus corrosion repairing at suspension mounting points across the rear, ball park prices suggested c£1500-£2000 at a Jaguar Indie who I knew would do the job to a proper standard. The bits aren't that expensive, it's the labour especially if the mounts need sorting.

I decided to bale out and sold mine as a fixer-upper. The chap who bought it has worked through the issues and she's going great guns.

Top motor and if you've the time/enthusiasm to sort out, you'll not look back.

Interesting; my S-Type's sills were fine but the wheelarches went.

I just sold my beloved S-Type yesterday - a 2005 model.

My sills were fine too. There was a lot of surface corrosion on them and I feared the worst but they cleaned up really well and were rock solid.

The good thing about S-Type sills is that they're hidden by plastic, so the structural repairs are just that. It's some welding and functional coating but not a lot of money in surfacing and spraying.

These are great cars, so have a read of those links above, bite the bullet and get them done, then enjoy the thing. biggrin

After much testing by various people it seems my XF's bumpy noisy lurchy ride and hard rollabout seats are the new normal. I just have to lower my sights from the S-Type (and every other pre-2007 Jaguar) and get used to it.

I bought an XF to potentially replace my S Type but it's a completely different car.

The S Type is more comfy and has a lovely supercharger whine. The performance feels more thrilling in the S Type. A car that will be very difficult to part with.

Well my twin turbos whistled merrily from cold - does that count? nuts

They don't whistle on the XF. In fact I'm still not sure which lurch is kick-down and which lurch is the turbos waking up... they seem to be placed at random positions on the accelerator pedal. Not nice to overtake with.
